D.S: They are decent, i got the coated rings but i would recommend the zinc as the black powder coat can chip/ wear away, expose and will rust slowly over time. If you want the black look then go for it, but if you don’t care go for the others.

Jeff S.: This is the second Smittybilt product I have reviewed in the last few days and will say pretty much the same thing I did last time.
Smittybilt is a great company with great products. I own a mechanic shop and we have used them for light brackets, winch, as well as front and rear bumpers. Every single product I have seen from them is A+. There are no casting defects and the powder coating is flawless.
I will use Smittybilt products as often as I can on builds moving forward.

Barrington: Update: Nov 2019. I've had these for 9 months now. The paint is holding up great and I've had no issues. I thought the red paint might to start looking faded and turn pink but that's not the case. The look great and have held up under some tough conditions.
Well made shackles. The paint is a nice deep red and coated evenly. Unfortunately the pin is not the advertised size, is actually 7/8". Will update how the paint ages once I've had them for awhile.

MRH: Price, quality, and value. That's what I found in ordering the Smittybilt shackle. I compared the Trailhead Shackles I had and found they were identical to this one. I needed one more than I had so I opted for this. Very heavy duty. Fits the tow straps I have also the Axle Straps, which is why I needed this one. Had a chance to test it out helping a neighbor pull down sections of a large oak tree. Very large heavy sections. So I'm pretty sure when it comes to towing a vehicle, which is what I needed them(this) for, it will do the job. Speaking of which, I had two incidents involving my nieces and nephew, where they had car trouble, all over one weekend in Atlanta. In very bad places on I-75, in rush hour traffic. Had I had these and the other tow equipment, our night would have ended much sooner. So a word to the wise. Be prepared.. Triple A can take hours... Amazon has everything you need.

fargozombiefargozombie: Most (current) vehicles include a towing eye (lug hook) that screws into a threaded hole behind a plastic cover on the front/back bumpers (photos). I purchased this 3/4" D-ring (screw-pin) shackle to attach a recovery strap to that towing eye. The D-Ring shackle screw-pin is approximately 3/4" diameter (size is the diameter of the shackle and not necessarily the pin diameter although they are typical close) and fits through the eye of the automobile bumper towing hook which are typically 1" diameter and greater in my experience. This particular shackle is made of carbon steel and has a Zinc coating for rust prevention. It has the required ASME B30.26 markings (Important) which tell you the Working Load Limit (WLL), in this case 4-3/4 Ton (9,500 lbs.) and the shackle size 3/4". it has the letters "CE" which are the abbreviation of French phrase "Conformité Européene" which literally means "European Conformity".It should have the manufacture symbol...so, not sure the manufacture of these but probably not the USA. If you need a larger WLL go with an alloy steel shackle instead of carbon steel. Bigger is not necessarily stronger, it is also the material properties of the steel used...

R. KnowltonR. Knowlton: I purchased some of the TGL 3/4" Black D-ring Shackles along with these Smittybilt shackles. I wanted to see if there was a significant quality difference between the two that warranted the steeper price of the Smittybilt shackles ($18 for two TGL shackles versus $26 for two Smittybilt shackles in Mar 2016).
Pros:
- In size and shape--right down to the hole size in the pin head and shape of the pin head--the TGL brand appears to be a copy of the Smittybilt shackle. The Smittybilt shackle has the word "Smittybilt" in raised letters, but that's about it. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they're both manufactured by the same company on the same line.
- Pin threads are clean and easy to screw in.
- Load limit is indicated in raised letters/numbers.
- Thread pitch and pin size are the same so parts are interchangeable between the two brands.
- Paint is a bit thicker on the Smittybilt shackles.
Cons:
- The black paint is a little thinner on the TGL brand. I originally thought paint thickness was a purchasing factor, which is why I started by purchasing the Smittybilt shackles (which have thicker paint). However, after normal handling...

Thaddeus Hogan: I have a trailer for two Waverunners (combination fully loaded is about 2100 lbs). This needs to be winched into the storage until because of a 3 inch lip going from the edge of the storage unit to the driveway (cannot push the axle over this gap.
My trailer has pull spots on the left and right sides, I use two of the D-rings and a strap so I can pull both sides of the trailer evenly with a single winch.
The dimensions listed are correct, I looked at a few D-rings and drew them on paper with a ruler using the online dimensions, so I could see what size they would be. The product matches up well with my approximations and fit my trailer perfectly.
The pull spots on the trailer have the Waverunners hanging over them, so it is an awkward position for inserting the pin in the D-ring. However, the tolerances on these rings are very good! The pin easily mates up with the threading, even when working the whole thing one-handed and crouching in an awkward position!
I recommend these D-rings because the pins grab the threading easily, and can be attached to your target with only one hand.
