Courtney Wilson: Sheila, Rebecca and Joanna have created a tour de force, I’m sure it will be the beginning of women being set free in the global evangelical church. This book busts very myth, reveals every lie and releases every captive from the authoritarian theology that has led to the abuse of so many women over the last fifty years. They expose the danger so much of what has been considered acceptable across Christian marriage and sex teaching in thoughtful, responsible ways, objectively revealing certain thought leaders and teachings for who and what they are. It is vitally important reading for every Christian woman, pastor, victim - and husband.

Linda: When I first bought TGSR last spring, it was recommended by one of our Pastor’s Wives, who actually is one of the 20,000 women in the survey! We had a small group of women who did the TGSR study via zoom! I thought at first it was just a book about having a great sex life in the Christian realm! I devoured the first 2 Chapters… I couldn’t put the book down. Moving on through Chapters 3 & 4, and other heavier chapters - broke me… I sobbed & sobbed. The reality of all of the wrong teachings, the false definition of sex as a “simple act for mainly his pleasure”, that he is not to be deprived of, the blame & shame placed on women, the overwhelming burden of feeling broken if you don’t reach climax by what many Christian men are taught sex is - “oh well, I guess you’re just one of those women who can’t orgasim.”… the shocking accounts of Husbands not even willing or caring enough to understand their Wive’s body works - that woman are designed completely different! I grieved for the women in the stories. I grieved that those are the things I had believed while I was single. I grieved for how many marriages have been harmed by all of that...

Naomi Phillips: <i>"Many Christians simply aren’t experiencing amazing, mind-blowing, earth-shattering, great sex. We want to change that.”
“We’ve got a lot of treatments for sex in the church...But have we, as the church, taken the time to ask if any of our treatments even work?”
“We realized that giving healthy information is not enough if people are also consistently consuming bad advice from the wider Christian culture. But we didn’t want to simply put forth a new set of opinions—we wanted data. We wanted an evidence-based treatment. So we surveyed over twenty thousand women...We wanted to get to the bottom of what makes sex great--but also what can make it bad.”</i>
Wow. I have read Sheila's blog off and on for many years and had many personal breakthroughs on this topic in bits and pieces, so I knew this book was going to be important. But I was unprepared for just how <i>desperately needed</i> this book is.
Using survey results and excerpts from highly influential Christian bestsellers, the authors tackle some of the messages in popular books and teachings, and the consequences those messages have had on women and...

C. TorresC. Torres: Imagine standing on the shore of a calm, still lake. The top of the water is crystal blue, and you can gaze across it for yards. As you move closer, you can clearly see through the water that is at your feet. You notice colorful rocks and a variety of fish that swim near the shore. Every once in a while, the playing fish will pick up some of the sand below, making the water murky and then difficult to see through. As you look up a little, you realize that you can see that the water at that distance is clear as well. A little harder to distinguish, though, because of the distance, the ripples, and the reflection of the sun, but it is obvious to you that this lake is tranquil, relaxing, with very few disturbances.
While contemplating the beauty of this lake, you notice a dark wading shadow in the corner of your eye. You look down to catch a glimpse of what other creatures might be found, but before you can distinguish anything, the sand is tossed up inside the water and it is no longer visible. Because this creature was bigger, more sand was disturbed, and it took longer for it to settle back down. By the time it settles, the creature is gone and you didn’t even get a...

L.E.: This book is FANTASTIC and revolutionary. Sheila NAILS it, repeatedly, all over the place. I cannot recommend it highly enough for undoing all the terrible things we were taught about sex!
It’s like when we were first married, I was handed a lovely little box of beliefs, neatly packaged up in popular evangelical books. They said if I followed these beliefs, I would be the wife God wanted me to be and my husband would be happy and this was the perfect recipe for marital bliss. Well guess what? These beliefs can actually lead to pain, abuse, enabling addiction, stripping away personhood from women, viewing men as powerless to their urges, and basically just overall literal DISASTER.
In The Great Sex Rescue, Sheila, Rebecca & Joanna literally come to the Rescue and throw back the covers on all the mess:
-Lies we’ve been fed in the most popular Christian sex & marriage books are uncovered, and exposed for what they are
-The insanity of those beliefs and the broken logic that backfires horribly in marriage is called out
-Abuse is shown to be abuse instead of being excused continually
-Addiction is called what it is instead of being enabled, and...
