Amazon Customer: UPDATE: So, my car unfortunately was a target of a tik tok trend. The car is fixed, but I started using this again to provide myself with some peace of mind. I have some tips:
- I previously had an issue with locking the bar.
**When using: turn the key to unlock the bar, and LEAVE THE KEY IN THAT POSITION.
1. hook the bar to either your gas or brake pedal. I now use my brake pedal, since the gear can't be shifted without pressing down on the brake.
2. Once everything's in place, turn the key and pull it out of the bar. The bar is now locked.
3. if the bar still feels a little loose, you can pull the two ends together until you hear a "click". Now the bar is locked solid.
I'm glad I had this sitting around, and it's been great using it now that I've learned those tricks.
A bit of backstory: I had originally bought a similar looking item off of Amazon, which worked well until the key unfortunately broke off in the lock. I needed a new one soon, and that one didn't even have a shipping date yet. I found this one, which looked nearly identical and could get to me in a day or two. Gayle H: I live in an area that’s relatively close to the southern border of the USA. They love to steal trucks, especially 4WD trucks. With the very recent theft of several trucks within a 3-mile radius of my home, I decided my factory alarm system wasn’t enough. So, I bought this device as an added deterrent to make it a little more difficult in the hopes they’d abandon my truck for easier prey.
My truck has a manual transmission, so I hook the lower, black end to my clutch pedal and the shiny metal end to the steering wheel. It’s very smooth metal, so it won’t damage the leather wrap. Make sure your steering wheel is fully engaged in its locked position so there is little to no play before installing this device. The key is inserted to unlock the device before starting, and it remains in the lock until it’s fully in place.
As most of you likely have automatic transmissions, you’ll be attaching the black end to your brake pedal arm. Do this end first.
With your steering wheel tightly locked, slide the upper half of the device up to an easily visible place on your steering wheel (visible deterrent).
