WBTXWBTX: I purchased this Defender Security U 10827 Door Reinforcement Lock and received it earlier than expected.
I read the reviews and thought it would be better than my under door knob brace. Took less than 5 minutes to install. I pushed on it hard from the outside and it felt strong....Can't verify if it will hold some one from kicking in the door but it should the way it is set up. It is installed above the dead bolt lock and should strengthen that area of the door. I would recommend it...Price seemed reasonable as well

Gilliane: An absolute MUST for anyone who has children, lives alone or doesn't have a security system. We purchased these when our twins started walking and playing with doors. We never wanted to worry if they could get out of the house when they were starting to explore. I have never felt so safe in my home. Even with our kids being older, we use them every single night. We recently bought a second home and these were probably our first purchase. For safety alone for our family we will always use them. You can not get in a door with this locked. My husband is a big guy and I have had him try his hardest, nope! I wish I would have had these when I was single living alone. Would have saved me so much worry. Easy to install. High quality and could save lives.

Rupert PicanteRupert Picante: This is a great lock. It is easy to install and easy to operate, once you get the hang of it.
I mounted mine below the door knob. I figured that if someone is trying to get in, they are kicking and low. Between the door knob latch, the deadbolt up top and the reinforcement lock at the bottom no one is kicking in this door.
I did add a reinforced striker and deadbolt plate with long screws. It would be quicker to saw the door open than try to ram or kick it open. I do not think anyone will ever want to try to get in, but it is a very cheap way to make a door that much stronger.

wild animals: I recommend this lock to everyone. There are many ways to make your home more secure without spending much money and this is one of my favorite. It's extremely well made and even looks kind of elegant. It is quite easy to use, but honestly it could be easier. I wish they had added a grip or loop of some kind to make it easier to unlock. My concern is that someone unfamiliar with it would be trapped inside during a fire. Occasionally it will get bumped out of position when it's unlocked, so when we try to shut the door, the lock is in the way and the door bounces off of it which is startling (and could feasibly damage the door).

For installation, you do need self-drilling screws and a powerful driver of some kind, which could be expensive if you don't have the driver already, or you can use a less powerful drill with a very long drill bit, and those bits can be expensive and hard to find. This type of hardware kit should always come with a drill bit.

If you have a door that doesn't fit well in the frame, you may have trouble placing this lock. The bottom half of our door has a huge gap, and this lock doesn't have a ton of overlap even on doors that are hung correctly....
