SemperTerp: Great overall lock! Once we got through the 2.4ghz issue. Most internet 🛜 systems today are 5.0 ghz, with no 2.4 g option.

BeardedMen: Love that the lock on outside looks the same instead of a black screen. Important for those that live in a condo or home association that mandates such things.

Isherlaufer: Here is my overview of the August 3rd Gen Smart Lock:
1) Installation:
- One word - Simple! Let me first state that my home DIY skills would not be considered "professional." More likely just above amateur. I watch a lot of youtube videos before attempting any project around the house.
The install was amazingly easy. The August app walks you through about 13 steps to take off the original bolt and attaching the smart lock. All in all this took me less than 15 minutes.
There is also an option to install a sensor which will alert you when the door is ajar. Following the instructions in the app, this took another 5 minutes.
Along with the install of the lock was the WiFi Bridge. As instructed, I plugged it in to a wall outlet within ten feet of the door. Now for the set-up...
2) Set up - Again- easy. As you will now have the app downloaded on your phone, you work your way through the instructions to set up the lock, the wifi bridge, and for me, I also purchased the keypad and set that up at the same time. Once everything is connected, which took about 10 minutes, now you can start customizing the smart lock.
I only purchased the keypad as...

Jason H: I put this Smart Lock on my home and it's really great.
I never use the native August app - instead I use Homekit to unlock the door when I (i.e. my phone, or my partner's phone) arrive "at home", and lock the door when I leave "home" .. i.e. the neighbourhood. It's rare that I will actually use the Home app to control the lock anymore.
Speaking of the native August app, it has the ability to share keys, and this has not worked any of the times I have tried it. Searching the web for a solution, this appears to be a common problem. I wanted my mom to have remote access to the door in case I ever found myself without my iPhone. Creating an account on her phone, always fails. Three our four people I tried said the same thing. Useless. Fortunately, it's not a feature I need. Sharing access to the lock with my family via Apple's HomeKit works just fine. But it's tempting to dock a star for the shoddy account creation implementation. Of all the things to screw up, this??
August's native Auto-lock feature, IMO, is a terrible feature. On more than one occasion I was locked out after stepping out momentarily (e.g. to take out the garbage). It's like a spring-loaded...

Rod G.: Product looks good but there are no instructions for it; they want you to download the app first (you'll have to sooner or later anyway).
My suggestion is to Google the instructions that was you'll know how to access the batteries and how to correctly install it on your door which is easy once you know how to do it.
After I calibrated the lock, the deadbolt wouldn't retract all the way using the app but manually it would. I recalibrated it, same result. I activated the lock with the app with the door open thinking that maybe it was hanging up in the door somehow. Nope, same result. Re-calibrated again, still a no go. Restarted the phone, checked to make sure I had ios 11 or higher (as recommended), restarted the app, deleted and reloaded the app, reset to factory specs and started all over still the same. Tried to recalibrate it again (I'm stubborn) and the locking mechanism wouldn't rotate as far as it should have manually so I was unable to recalibrate the lock.
In reading other reviews, there may have been a piece of the rotating mechanism (plastic if I remember correctly) which may have broken of inside preventing the lock from rotating all the...

Jon: Those are just some of the words I'd use to describe this lock.
This lock was purchased for our condo. As part of the condo rules, we're not allowed to change the outside look of the lock. We're also supposed to provide keys to the condo in event of an emergency. That rules out the touch pad only lock and the touch pad with manual key entry.
The meant one of the only options for a smart lock was to use one where you replace the inside thumb turn only.
Enter the August lock.
First the good. The lock is easy to install. It only took me 5 minutes to set up the lock. Connecting to the lock to configure the settings took a while and didn't work unless I put my phone right next to the lock. I previously tried with the phone 3 feet away and it didn't want to connect.
However, once it connected, I was able to modify the settings. I was able to toggle the chime to indicate when the door locks or unlocks, notifications, auto-lock timer, auto-unlock when I reach a certain area, door sense, etc.
Now, unless you are standing next to the lock, you cannot modify the lock settings through the app. It doesn't matter if you have a great internet connection...

Zack: I have been converting my house into a "smart home" piece by piece, and getting this lock was the next step. I read countless reviews on different products, and decided on the August smart lock due to a few features that I really liked. I have only been using this for about 2 weeks, thus may end up updating in the future, however for now it has been working flawlessly.
1) It was EXTREMELY easy to install. I mean.....super easy. I feel like every time I install a smart device (switch/outlet) in my home, while it claims to be easy, there always seems to be something that doesn't go right for one reason or another, such that it takes some troubleshooting. You literally follow the instructions on the app, and bam it is installed. It took me just a few minutes. Without a doubt the easiest smart device installation I have ever had
2) The auto unlock feature was a big selling point for me. I am always coming into the house with my hands full, and inevitably have my keys in a pocket that is more difficult to get to etc. There were varying reviews on this feature, some saying it was faulty, some saying it was great. Thus far, it has worked every time. I will continue to...
