Danen G.: There's nothing worse than a flimsy ice cream scoop when your ice cream is frozen solid. This one is not flimsy and does a great job of scooping the hardest ice cream. It's design allow you to dig in to the ice cream linearly - like you would with a shovel, rather than with a twist of the wrist like you would use a spoon. This is helpful when ice cream is really hard because it gives you more power with less energy, and more control. Once you have a scoop on the scooper, It allows it to come off easily because the scoop is not hemispherical and there are negative ribs designed in to help reduce suction. Eating ice cream should be an enjoyable event and this scoop helps remove a lot of the hassle of getting it from the container to your bowl or cone or milkshake glass.

Deénbektorian: We have three standard "Ball" style ice-cream scoops that have done nothing but irritate me for years as to the effort required to scoop bloody any ice cream that hasn't been melting for at least 15 minutes beforehand. When one broke, I figured I'd try a different design, though it may not be available from the dollar store.

This thing, simple as it may be, is a revelation. It's more comfortable to hold, but, get this, crucially, it SCOOPS ICE CREAM. Like, it does it well! My elbows and wrists no longer weep at the sight of an empty cone.

I did have some concern that the more open angle of the scoop would make "shaping" the scoop on a cone a little more difficult. This turned out to be unfounded, as the more open design actually makes it easier to shape a scoop to a cone.
