Seth A. KingSeth A. King: The axe is quality. It's a fine compromise between a splitting axe and a chopping axe. It does both well enough. The ferro rod is a nice added value, but I never keep it in the axe handle.

The major complaint is with the sheath. For starters, it's a total pain to both remove and insert the axe. You have to do it juuust right or else the blade won't go in or come out. And last, as you can see by the pictures, the axe shifts around in the sheath. In fact, the axe naturally wants to lay in the sheath in such a way so that tha tip of the blade sticks out above the sheath, which is super dangerous. I could easily cut our gouge myself at worst. And at best, could tear my shirt or other gear. Several times my arm would catch the blade. I'm lucky I didn't cut myself.

So, all in all, be prepared to make your own sheath. Schrade really should fix this design. It's a liability.

ElGooch: It’s light. Packable. Good handle length for swinging and chopping. The flint striker is beefy and gives a good spark for lighting fires.

Navjodh: It looks and feels really nice but after a few times going into the woods and chopping up firewood(probably around 5 bundles of firewood) it has chipped several times from nothing but the wood. I think the blade is made of an inferior steel or something.

There are some benefits and positives about this hatchet over others such as the hammer side, fire starter in the pommel and sharpening stone included however I think that the negative (blade literally chipping while its being used for its main purpose outweighs the positives.

Overall, I would recommend spending a little more on a better hatchet or even a hand saw like I'm going to get next and I will not rebuy this product or any other Schrade products. Very disappointed.

Michael: Die Axt ist in Ordnung, funktioniert und zumindest mein Exemplar ist gut genug geschärft um sofort verwendet zu werden.
Der Griff ist, zumindest für meine Hand, optimal. Die Rutschfestigkeit ist einwandfrei, besser als bei der von mir gern genutzten Fiskars X7.
Es war kein Problem Feuerholz für meinen Feuerkorb zumachen.
Die Hammerfläche ist durch die Struktur hervorragend geeignet, Heringe einzuschlagen, da sie dadurch nicht auch nicht so schnell abrutscht wie ein glatte Hammerfläche, wenn man den Hering nicht gerade trifft.
Der mittelgroße Feuerstahl sitzt sicher im Griff und funktioniert (allerdings nicht mit der beschichteten Axt). Hätte ich nicht unbedingt gebraucht, da ich ohnehin einen in der Hosentasche, einen am Rucksack und einen am Messer habe (Redundanz), ist aber eine nette, funktionelle Dreingabe.
Den ebenfalls beiliegenden Schleifpuck habe ich nicht ausprobiert, ich habe aber ein identisches Produkt seit Jahren in Verwendung und bin sehr zufrieden damit.
Das große Problem ist die Scheide. Einerseits ist sie eng, so dass die Axt sich nur mühselig herausnehmen lässt, andererseits so locker, dass bei Trageweise am Gürtel ein Teil der...

Oh no: Fantastic axe. Lightweight enough for portaging trips but heavy enough for some serious chopping. The fire steel took some practice, but threw some good sparks. The axe held a good edge for quite a while. The package includes a sharpening stone with two grits, and a handy cover/holster.
Unfortunately mine was lost when our canoe flipped on the North end of the Oxtongue river in Algonquin park. I’m sure it will survive for a good few years under water thanks to the composite handle, so if anyone wants a free axe, you know where to find it 😁

Cool Hand Jay: I was hesitant because I read some comments about people who used their hatchet/axe once and the steel chipped. I also assumed that, since majority of comments were positive, these were a select few with defects. I still don't know if this is true, but the hatchet I got is AMAZING.

I took it camping this last weekend to try it out. It came out of the box sharp and ready to use, and the sharpening stone that comes with it is a bit soft but I think it kind of helps put a nice edge on it. I used the stone after a few strikes and got the edge even sharper than it had come, pretty quickly. It feels well built, stood up to a weekend of chopping all different hardness of wood.

The large ferro rod that comes with it works perfectly and is a nice size compared to ferro rods that come with "survival" gear. Most of those smaller ferro rods are really only good for dire situations. The rod that comes with this axe (pull the string at the bottom of the hatchet handle) is nice size (good for when you need to use the axe to spark it) and reminds me of the rods you would buy separately.

The rubberized handle makes this axe very comfortable to use, especially with a nice pair...

I_C_B00BS: Ich habe eine preiswerte robuste Axt für einen kleinen Hausgarten und zum Campen gesucht .. und bekommen. Kleine Bäume umhacken oder dicke Äste abschlagen funktioniert ohne Problem und ist einfach viel cooler als es zu sägen. Auch das hämmern mit der Rückseite klappt super ich habe zwei Pfosten für einen frisch gepflanzten Baum in die Erde geschlagen und hat super geklappt. Der Griff ist in sehr griffig und auch nass kein bisschen rutschig. Der Wetzstein ist klein und robust also kann man ihn problemlos mitnehmen, er ist zwar sehr grob aber falls man unterwegs mal nachschleifen muss, weil man aus versehen einen Stein trifft oder was auch immer, bekommt man die Axt wieder scharf. Der Feuerstahl ist vielleicht ganz gut wenn man zum Camping geht oder so. Hat für mich aber keinen wirklichen Nutzen, weil ich Feuerzeuge/Streichhölzer dabei habe, stört aber auch nicht. Einen Stern Abzug, weil die Axt manchmal in der Nylonscheide hängen bleibt, wenn man sie nicht ganz langsam und genau rauszieht, ich denke dieses Problem löst sich von selbst, wenn sich das Nylon ein bisschen dehnt.

Zum Campen und für kleine Gärten sehr zu empfehlen. Für professionelle Holzfäller...

J. Martin: I'm very impressed with this hatchet! After watching around 30 youtube videos in the search for a large campsite hatchet I settled on this model. I decided to purchase the Schrade SCAXE2L over the smaller model as I wanted something with more force behind it and felt that the longer handle would provide the extra oomph to cut through 2" limbs with ease. The hatched arrived well packaged and very sharp. It's easily sharp enough to whittle wood as you'd do with a knife. The grind looked very centered and the coating seems very durable. The handle is comfortable and the angle of the grip seems to work well. It's not overly grippy or rough and if I was going to be using it a lot in hot weather where sweat might be an issue I might want to wrap it with athletic tape, or a sandpaper like grip.

Last weekend when my wife asked that I cut down a tree that had lost the top 1/2 of it's branches in a recent storm I grabbed this hatchet to do the job. I realize it's not an Axe, but the tree that I was cutting down was roughly 8 inches at the base and only about 25 feet tall. Enns: This is the best price for this hatchet on any website or any store I could find for a Canadian delivery.
The hatchet comes very sharp and has a sharpening puck with a fine and coarse grit. The flint stick is VERY secure in the handle - there is no way I could get it to come loose while using the hatchet, period. And the flint stick is large and will last a long time. The knurled hammer end is great for putting in tent pegs, heck if you wash the thing you can use it as a meat tenderizer. In actual use I think you too will prefer it over most hatchets where the hammer end is smooth.
This hatchet is on the heavier end if one is going on a long hike, but the way I see it is that the longer the hike the greater the risks in the bush/mountains which means you need to have a very good firewood processing tool, and nothing will beat this Shrade SCAXE2L. Do a search for reviews on it on Youtube and you will see how great it is.
