Managing access and keys has been super annoying and I was running all over the place opening doors for employees I did not want to give keyholder responsibility to. This way I can give each employee a code and be notified when they are coming and going. I had some concerns that maybe employees with keys were visiting after hours and taking inventory but now I can be assured that I will be notified of comings and goings. Also nice to be able to lock from my phone in case a delivery arrives outside normal hours. All in all I love my new locks !

Manikantan: One of the best lock. Although it has much of automation, it doesn't get connected to Alexa or Ring. Wondering how to connect with security system.

Giselle K. Jakobs: We bought this for our STR door. We got it when we got a new door. The door people installed the smart lock for us, so don't know how easy it is, although it looked complicated to me.
The lock works great - very easy to add people to the users and then set up a schedule for when the lock code is active.
The lock/app does seem to disconnect from the wifi sometimes and I then get an error message when I try to add or edit a user. This is annoying.
The batteries lasted about 3 months - the lock gets slower as the batteries get weaker. We only got a notification on the app when they were almost dead. And it looked like any other notification that the door was being locked/unlocked. So it is easy to miss.
The batteries are easy to replace from the inside.
The lock as a sticker on the inside that has the set-up code which seems very weird if you think that we are using it in a short term rental. Anybody could pull out the battery pack and then set-up the app and lock on their phone and control it. We removed the sticker and placed it in a safe place.
As others have mentioned, the numbers are virtually impossible to see on the black pad if it is not lit up. If you touch...

LuckyLucy: Preamble:
Lately I have been really unhappy with what is offered for smart lock units. Theyre either WAY overpriced (nest yale x) or simply overpriced and unreliable, or just absolutely cheap and insecure. When I bought my house, i adopted the August lock system for all three doors. From day-1, nothing but troubles. Unreliable. Doesnt work. If it does work, it often takes 1 minute to unlock a door. Checking status fails almost all the time. Customer support simply unable to figure out why , and they end up making me "factory reset" everything and reconfigure it all again. Also battery life was always so poor i'd be paranoid if i can get in my house. I am completely abandoning all three AUGUST LOCK smartlocks in my home an replacing for these Schlage Encode locks. I have absolutely had enough of unreliable AUGUST software and unreliable unlocking from AUGUST KEYPAD and AUGUST CONNECT "hub". I tried just about everything that that company has asked me to do and the complete lack of reliability has made me look for another lock system for my smart home.
Schlage Encode.
I decided to buy a smartlock from an actual door lock company, unlike August who was tech-focused,...

Bill_IT: My purchase of a Schlage Encode electronic front door lock and the matching FE285 handle and latch set (purchased separately) yielded several lessons in how to select such devices while avoiding most of the problems.
Upon receipt of the lock, I had Lowes re-key it to match my other Schlage house locks (a free service at my Lowes). But note: have this done BEFORE you install the lock! Otherwise, a locksmith must come to your location and will charge accordingly.
I have installed my lock and set it up. It will provide access to my home if I require 911 services (I live alone). My medical alert company has a temporary access code for the lock, which it will provide only to 911 responders. And If I am unable to delete that code immediately after responders access my home, that can be done remotely by family members or friends who have downloaded, installed, and set up the Schlage Home app on a compatible cell phone. That prevents responders from abusing the code to burglarize the home later. There is the added reassurance that any use of an access code can generate an immediate alarm on the Schlage Home app.
I had to contact Schlage’s excellent customer service...

JakeJake: Product: Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt
I read reviews on many of the Wi-Fi locks before deciding on this unit. I am very glad that I chose this one.
Pros:
• Materials: All components required for installation and use, including batteries, provided with unit.
• Instructions: ok but on-line instructions very good.
• Installation: Took about 20 minutes to install and set up. I had to spend a little extra time drilling out the bolt passageway - 1" bolt mechanism on this unit, 7/8" on my door before drilling to 1".
• Alexa integration: Simple! Locks and unlocks with code. Voice activations locks no prompt, unlocks after asking for code.
• Schlage app: Works fine. Lock/Unlock, set up users, get history of lock activity. Multiple locks may be set up in app.
• Battery life: I used the lock about 50-60 times testing it and showing it off. Battery life is at 99%. Batteries are (4) AA. I noticed when installing the lock that it was easy to bind the bolt mechanism with too much torque on the screws. I backed of a bit, added a couple of drops of oil, and the bolt mechanism slides freely. I wonder if those reporting low battery life may have...
