alan: Neither the clamp nor the tire supports were suitable for my e-bike. The clamp which is supposed to support the down tube is too narrow to accommodate a battery and the tire trays are also too narrow for 2" (or wider) tires. I returned the unit and bought a Thule which I am very happy with.

Matthew WachowskiMatthew Wachowski: We recently purchased a 53 lb "commuter" ebike with a step through frame and fenders. Our existing rack can not carry such a bike so I went looking for a new one. I have many requirements.

1. Support for both a 1.25" and 2" hitches (I have vehicles with both)
2. Support for the e-bike with the weight, step through frame and fenders being notable challenges
3. Support for carbon fiber frames
4. Support for a few other bikes I have

I spent hours doing research and was nearly convinced that a rack that could do everything I wanted did not exist. Then I ran across this Saris. I'm happy to say that everything on my wishlist is fulfilled!

Of course no rack is perfect and this one has its own pros and cons:

Pros:

1. Sturdy. Loaded up with the ebike and another bike, this rack is solid. There is some axial movement when going over bumps but it's not worrying to me.
2. Bikes are held very securely but also gently. I really like the tire straps and the fact that most of the bikes weight is supported by it's tires. The holders are nicely designed and interface the bike with soft surfaces.

BHD: The installation instructions/video was a great help in getting this bike rack put together and installed on my vehicle. I watched a youtube video a few times and then was able to get everything together. In order for two bicycles to fit properly, it took quite a bit of maneuvering before I got it so both bikes were seated and secured properly. Once the rack is adjusted properly for the particular bikes, it's easy to get the bikes on/off without trouble. They ride snug and secure. I also bought a lock for the hitch so I don't have to worry about it getting stolen off my vehicle. I am very happy with my purchase.

Kevin Humphrey: Love this rack, it let's me carry 2 bikes easily. If I just have a bike on the furthest out position my lift gate just clears, awesome to still have moderate access without buying a more expensive rack that tilts out of the way! I've taken this on a couple 10 hours drives and the bikes have stayed secure! The bolt that comes to lock to your hitch doesn't have any theft prevention measures, so if you're going to leave the bike unattended I would certainly look into getting a lock! Ideally for your the hitch and a cable lock for the bike. Anything to slow thieves down is worth it!

Amazon Customer: I had read great reviews regarding the Saris Freedom 2 bike rack and decided to purchase one. The assembly should have been very easy as it was just three bolts and three lock nuts. Unfortunately, the three lock nuts that came with it were too small. I thought about packing it up and returning it, but instead went to the hardware store to buy nuts that would fit. Outside of the assembly issue, I am very pleased with my new bike rack.

Michael Chuang: although i cant compare this to any others, I like how it holds the bike away from my car. Only nit pick is the amount it can wiggle, even though it's not much, but that's to be expected with only 1 point of contact...the hitch receiver.

The Bionic Stan: This replaced a ten-year-old Yakima rack where the bikes hang from a horizontal U-shaped tube. Materials fatigue over time made it no longer secure.

The Saris Freedom 2 was easy to assemble. As a rule, I hate picture-only instructions, but these were quite good -- they even told me to put two shipping covers for bolts into the trash. They include the Allen wrench you need to screw in the bolts; your crescent wrench or even pliers hold the nuts while you do this. The vertical U-tube was missing from the package, surprisingly, but Saris customer service overnighted a new one to me so that I could keep my plans for driving the bike on a weekend trip.

Reading some of the comments, I thought that adjusting the rack might be a bit finicky, but it was really pretty easy. By the third time I had the bike on and off, it was second nature. And I liked not having to lift the bike up as high as I did for the old rack. Also, more of the bike was behind my car, which I'm sure reduces air drag at least somewhat. I really like the secure feel of the cradles for the two wheels -- they're not flat but contoured, so the bike isn't rolling anywhere -- the clips provide extra security,...
