Tim: It’s fine for a ferro rod, but it’s not as easy as it looks. If you want a hobby, then take up starting fires with this. If you want an easy, quick and reliable way to start fires in an emergency, pack matches or a lighter.

John from AZ: I have not used the rod. It's more of an case product I keep in my go pack. But it does throw sparks and I believe will work when called for.

Jonathan R Cosmos: I used this on a recent camping trip and it had no problems producing a spark to ignite my grill. The spark is not as big as more expensive ferro rods, but for the price it works well. My only gripe is the striker is very soft. As in there is a groove developing where the striker hits the ferro rod. Again, for the price it works well.
