Waterbird: Good recipes, easy to follow instructions

Janice Pfaus: This book was recommended to me by my nephrologist. I was first diagnosed with kidney diease in 2001 , was on dialysis four and a half years, and got a successful kidney transplant in 2012, so i am definiotely not new at this. In the years since my transplant, there have been some blips in my blood tests, and recently it seemed my kidney was fading. This cookbook looks wonderful. I was advsed to keep my protein , phosphoros and sodium intakes low. The book starts with general nutrition and disease information, then gives loads of tasty healthy recipes, with photos . Just what I needed!

Black Jane 1: Good information inside. I learned some things from this book that no one told me. I have not necessarily followed the menu word for word, but I have made some important adjustments that i hope will make an improvement.

Debbie Colorado girl: I thought this cookbook had sone good recipes. They include all the nutritional facts and have meal plan ideas. They also must have improved the index as a previous reviewer mentioned they only listed carrots twice in the back but as I showed in my photo that’s better now. Improvements would be add more photos. I can never understand why recipe books don’t have the majority of their recipes showing the photo of it made. Most people want to see it before making it. Also, there are a lot of carbs in these meals. I’m trying to do a lower carb to manage insulin spikes and realize it can’t be no carb but maybe a section just on lower carb alternatives would be good.
Debating whether to return it or keep it.

Carol Bannister: I was recently diagnosed with kidney disease and this cookbook is wonderful! The front contains so much information and the recipes are very well written. It's easy to tell it was written by a Registered Dietician who knows what she is talking about.

thehwyman: It's a nice cookbook with some very creative ideas, but it just wasn't for me. I'm way past trying to avoid having dialysis and was looking for some meal ideas that are based on a basically equipped kitchen with meals for one or two not four, six or more. Since I'm the only one in the house that has to follow a renal diet I do my own meal preparation. With a few exceptions I refuse to subject the other family members to a truly kidney freindly diet. Potatoes, tomatoes and many of the other tastier food items become on the "no no" list or are ok on a very limited basis. I've developed my own ad hoc menus based on the potassium, phosphate and sodium contents of foods and that has been working well so far. Since the mdr of these is easily available either on the product labels or with a quick Google search I've compiled a list of these items and shoot for a daily food intake that doesn't exceed 50% of the mdr of any of them.

sally Baker: This is a fantastic book!
Not only does it give you lots of recipes, it explains how the kidneys work and what effect certain foods have on them....I feel its written just for me,as it answers so many questions I've had.
