LAB: I replaced one of those plastic, curly-cue-type hoses with this unit. There's no comparison -- this is way sturdier and easy to use. The coil-back system is strong and pulls the hose back, whatever length is used. It comes with the necessary attachments, including Teflon tape for all the connections. Installation was easy. I drilled two holes through a 3/4" plywood shelf in my workshop and used large bolts, washers, and nuts to secure the unit. No problem. I recommend this product.

M. Ivey: Installed in my garage. Would highly recommend attaching to a wall stud and not using the wall anchor inserts that comes with it b/c the weight would likely pull the entire unit down and damage your walls. Other than that, it is a very good product. Very sturdy and of good quality. Very happy with the purchase.

SteveSteve: I haven't had it very long yet, but so far so good.
The 33' length is a good compromise for my needs. I have a basement workshop that is about 12'x35'. With the reel mounted to the ceiling in roughly the middle, I can reach to all the corners with enough slack to do what I need without having to stress the spring to its max.
The spring tension seems good, and the ratchet works well so far. Though I don't expect to do so very often, I did pull it all the way out a few times to see how it does. It gets pretty tight by the end, but doesn't seem like it's about to explode or anything.
The hose is fairly small diameter (1/4" internal). Not a bad thing for flexibility and compactness, but if you use high-CFM tools, it could cause restriction. In my case I will mostly be using it just to blow off dust and run air nailers and other low volume tools.
While not shown in the manual, you can easily remove the reel from the mounting bracket to make it easier to mount. There is a screw marked with "S" (blue arrow in picture) at each of the pivots. If you remove the screws, the pivots (red arrow) come out and you can remove the bracket. That makes it a breeze to just...

P. Schmidt: I bought this hose reel for the small pancake compressor in my basement workshop. Out in my garage workshop, I have a much larger 'serious' air compressor and a much larger air hose reel, made of steel, with a 50' Goodyear rubber hose. But for the basement shop, my requirements were more relaxed. I was looking for compact size, light weight, about 30' of hose, and also a swivel mount because I would be pulling the hose at more acute angles.
I selected this reel based on other Amazon reviews, specifications, and price. Especially important to me was a good hose quality that was not stiff like so many cheaper hoses. I understood that a 30' hose in a small reel like this needed to be a light weight type, or else it would be too bulky and heavy for the reel size. The 1/4 inch "hybrid polymer" hose seems like good enough quality, and while not quite as floppy/flexible as my Goodyear rubber hoses, it is pretty close.
The reel's metal bracket is made of heavy metal (steel I think), with what appears to be a powder coat finish. The reel itself is a fairly robust feeling plastic. It does not seem weak or wobbly. The retract spring and ratchet mechanism seems to work well, and...
