K. Honeyager: I once had a water leak from an HVAC drain pan onto my 2nd floor ceiling. I couldn't even reach it to patch, so a repair can be very expensive. Yes, a primary and secondary condensate drain can both clog, so I purchased this for added peace of mind. Just hook it in series with the red 24 VAC line going to the thermostat, and you can avoid expensive water damage repair.

mikey: WARNING... This switch came as a normally closed unit that opens on water rise. This is reverse logic from typical home A/C units. My A/C unit requires a switch that closes when the water is too high. If you install the switch and your A/C runs, you are good to go. If not, easy fix! Remove the C clip below the float (easy-careful), remove the float and turn it upside down. Reinstall the float and clip, and you converted the switch from normally closed to normally open. The switch will close when the pan water rises and cut off the compressor. It may not cut off the air handler (blower), so be sure to test the float positions before you finish the job.
Nice looking switch. Now I need to go install mine. Aaarrrggggg!!!
IMPORTANT CORRECTION:
I was backwards on the switch operation. When down, it completes the red or yellow thermostat wire and allows the compressor to run. When the pan water rises, the switch opens and disables the compressor. The switch float is correct as shipped.

Filboid Studge: Last summer, a clog in the condensate pan drain resulted in my having to fix a ceiling and a wall. To prevent that from re-occurring, I installed this condensate pan float switch. The switch is well made and very simple to install. It clips on to the pan and acts as a switch on either the Red (Rc) or Yellow (Compressor) wires from the thermostat. Takes less than 10 minutes to install - you will need a single marrette (wire-nut) for 18 gauge wire. I also installed a Rectoseal SG1 condensate pan overflow alarm at the same time. The SG1 alarm sounds when the switch is open.
