hua: excellent book seems to cover everything pretty well it touched on all the questions i had and not just covers the problems but offers several solutions to each problem. I would definitely recomend to any one just getting started or to anyone wanting to change to a more natural, sustainable approach!

catFox: This is good primer for those of us just starting out with chickens although sometimes I wished for more details and precision. For example, climate is never touched upon - the book seems to assume everyone lives in a temperate climate (not so - I live in northern New England). Lots of good advice about herbs and providing more holistic care. Though I disagree about using essential oils not because they aren't efficacious, maybe they are, but because they are not sustainable. You need to squeeze the life out of a huge number of plants to get a tiny bit of EO. They are a resource intensive product that to my mind perpetrates the exploitation of plants while being marketed as green when they are anything but. Anyway -- a good book for beginners who want a more natural approach to caring for chickens.
