Amazon Customer: It works

chris: Good knives sharp keep a good edge BUT they are a little thin and flexible would have liked if they were more sturdy

Bernadette Claxton: They’re thinner than I thought, I’d have preferred them. E thicker they’re quite flimsy feeling, however that’s not been an issue

GLS: Love these knives..use them daily. The blade on the butcher knife is thin...not so great for slicing hard cheese, but they stay sharp. I’d recommend buying the Rada knife sharpener as well...works great!

Edstro: I have had Rada knives for about 4 years now, now that they are on Amazon I will start buying them as gifts. These are such great knives, and so reasonably priced. I have paid way more for the big brand names sets only to be very disappointed. Make sure you get the sharpener as well.

C. McDowra: I've spent 42 married years with some pretty awful knives. The thought of buying good knives just wasn't one of my priorities until several months ago, when I finally decided I had to make some kind of decision to make my kitchen experience easier. I had considered all the so-called best brands and was a little cautious about spending a fortune on a set of knives and then having to "baby" them to keep from ruining them. Just by chance, a knife discussion came up on a recipe forum I frequent, and one of my friends there said her favorite knife was a Rada paring knife that her daughter had found in an apartment she rented and gave it to her. I had never heard of Rada before.

Then I spoke with my cousin's wife who had raved about her tomato knife several times in the past and had bought one for her daughter and daughter-in-law. Then I came here and read all the reviews, so I decided to take the plunge.

I ordered this gift set plus six serrated steak knives, a chef's knife, an extra paring knife (all black handles), and the Rada sharpener for about $108 total (including shipping from two different vendors here).

At first, I was struck by how lightweight they were,...

Dusty: I have already reviewed another set of RADA knives I bought my wife... and the same applies here... i'll just paste what I said from that review here....

I have been looking for some knives for my wife since she basically had NO decent knives. I did a ton of research on various knives and was looking at getting her a good brand name knife. I looked at all the big ones Henckels, Shun, RH Forschner, Wusthof, Global etc... I even looked at a few deals I found on Ginsu (insert mockery and laughter from professionals against the overly commercialized knife brand here :-)...) I'm not saying any of these knives are bad in any way, they each server their purpose and every person (and person's hand) is different, that's why these brands have been around for so long.

I had to consider my wife though... She's not big on spending $400 on a set of knives that she has to send off (or take somewhere) to be properly maintained/sharpened, and a lot of times, doesn't want to spend her time after preparing food, hand washing the knives. Well, my mom (and several other co-worker's moms) have had Rada knives for most of their lives and swear by them. The biggest issue I had with them was...

BookDelver: This knife set has confused me every since it arrived.

I really wanted to like this knife set more. They do cut nicely, but I just don't know. I wish Amazon had half-star increments, as I would have put this at 3.5.

Too start off with, I was under-impressed when they arrived. I don't know if is just Rada's new handles, as I haven't used their standard aluminum ones, but to be blunt they look like something bought from a "dollar store." This led to me thinking, "I have been had..." They just look so cheap. Small, thin handles do nothing to help them out. These things aren't something I want to display on my counter, they will stay in their box, hidden in a drawer. After using them I really would like larger handles for my long hands.

Now I will say they are anything but blunt they are very sharp and cut much better than my previous knives. It was a night and day difference between my old knives, which even after sharping were nowhere near these Radas.

Well to finish off, here are my pros and cons:

Pros:
Made in USA (Huge for me)
Nice variety in this starter set
Very sharp

Cons:
Aesthetics
Ergonomics
I like my random...
