Philly Geek: I got this because it has true bells, not “jingle bells” (spherical with a ball inside), which can catch a pup’s claw.
Bells are enough for us to hear, but don’t alarm the cat, so that’s nice.
Hung it by the door, but it doesn’t seem to be accidentally brushed as people come and go. Now it’s just on me to train the dog to use it… We’ll get there.

Mr. Woodcock: Lets talk about these bells for a moment (OMG!). Prior to me putting these bells on the door for my foster dog, my male German Shepherd would use his paws to smack the door knob, which got my attention. Now, my foster dog was deaf, still a pup but didn't quite get the hang of the bells. Originally, those bells were to go with the foster when he left. In hind sight, I should of stuck with that plan. The bells stayed, the foster found a new loving home.
My male GSD is an intelligent dog. He knows that he doesn't have to lift his paws to high in order to make them bells sing. I can be at the other end of the house, probably outside the house, and hear the freaking "OPEN THE DOOR NOW! Bells!". Once is enough to get me moving within five minutes. Which, doesn't meet his time line. So, he'll SMACK them bells harder, so it seems, again.... and again and again until he sees me appear to open the door. And then that a-hole looks at me like "dude, I want to go out and check for rabbits."
It's now become a cussing issue with me because my dog smacks them all the "explicit!" time now! And it's not just a smack, it's more like "HAULK SMASH!" I should toss these things into the...
