I was looking for a cheap 5.1 receiver. Well, I should have been careful about what I wished for. This is NOT a 5.1 Home Theater Receiver, this is nothing more than a Karaoke machine that happens to be able to do 5.1 (and doesn't do either very well).
I tried one, returned it because the 5.1 wasn't working even when using 5.1 media. Replacement did do 5.1 surround (poorly). Returned after a single day of use, and I bought a Denon AVR-S540BT as a replacement. Save yourself the aggravation and get a real Audio/visual receiver.
Let's be real, you don't care about my story, you are here for the facts:
1) The HDMI Input *will* do 5.1, but ONLY if the input is providing 5.1 media. Otherwise you get Stereo only (no bass speaker).
2) You can not force/upmix HDMI, Radio, Aux or Bluetooth stereo into 2.1, 3.1 or 5.1. If the input is stereo, you only get stereo. This means for Bluetooth and AM/FM radio, you will not get 5.1 sound, ever and only get 5.1 if you have Aux or HDMI inputs which are sending a 5.1 signal.
3) There is no "Listening Mode", "Sound Mode", "MultiChannel Stereo", or "All-Mode Stereo". Meaning you don't get to listen...

bds: Receiver is nice however it does not work well with a Harmony 650 remote. Since the on/off button is hard, you cannot turn on/off the product with the remote. Also, you cannot get get the volume to work with the remote, so I am stuck using two remotes, one for volume, and one for the rest of the home theater set up. Also have to manually turn on/off the receiver each day. The receiver, when on, is fairly noisy by itself, but not noticeable once the source sound is turned on.

Paul S.: works like a charm. cant beat it for the price. will it last forever? probably not. its like buying new ford. runs and drives, will fall apart IF ABUSED. I needed 5 speakers with aux input at a moderate volume for a low price. i have a denon AVR 7.2 system with powered subwoofers for my home theater. I use this PYLE for additional speakers throughout the house off the same TV. its loaded with a plethora of other inputs that will never see use.

Andrew Moore:
Pyle PT588AB 5.1 Channel receiver is not working properly, this is a bad product. I am very disappointed!!!!! I'm stationed in Korea, I don't have time to send this peace of crap back. Also, I intended to have party this Friday in my new apartment using this component, but I guess this party is shot. Now I have to go out and rush to find a re placement and spend and additional $300 to $400 to buy another receiver. This Product Should Be Removed From Your Stock And Never Advertised Again, Ever!!!! If You Have Any Drought in What I'm Saying Test It Your Self!!!! No Center Speaker Response, No Left or Right Rear Speaker Response and No Sub-Woofer Response!!!!!! The audio tech. that installing it in my apartment say's these channels are none responsive. If you notice my job and title I am more than competent in the field of Communications and so are my Techs.
NOTE: I Don't Have Time To Send This Mess Back.
Very Respectful, Disappointed and Money Wasted,
