Proctor Silex Electric Single Hot Plate Burner for Cooking

Daveheart: I use this to heat up broth at work. Apparently, you're not supposed to microwave broth, so I wanted a cheap option to heat it up for lunches.

PROS:
-Price
-Heats up quick
-Portable

Cons:
-Hard to clean (don't spill anything, the eye doesn't come out)
-Very short cord

Jannah: For years I had wanted to need one of those way cool induction cook tops. Now finally, there was a need, but when I read the 1s and 2s reviews, this was the no-brainer choice for me. The complaints were that the induction cook tops only have @ 3.5" heating surface, and I needed to be able to cook my 2 eggs over easy just right. This has over 5" of heat coil, tried and true technology, and does the job nicely. Plus, the price is incredible, and it heats and cools quickly. The thing they conveniently forget to tell you about the induction cook top is that as the pot heats on it, the pot heats the glass surface as well, so it becomes very hot. My experience is that glass holds its heat. When is someone likely to be accidentally burned? Before putting on the pot or after taking it off? One need only remember to turn on the heat after putting on the pot in order to be adequately safe. The knob turns easily, so one must get into the habit of checking it is off before plugging the unit in.

Beach Lover: It is great for simple cooking. You can boil water if the pot is not too wide, otherwise it will not come to a rolling boil. I can cook burgers and simple items. It is great in a pinch if you have no access to a regular stove. It is electric, so if you are used to using a gas stove, it takes a little getting used to.

Susie: I gave it 4 stars only because there are no handles affixed to the side to move the unit after cooking as it is very hot to touch afterwards! Otherwise, the unit works well and has served its purpose of cooking in a medium size saucepan, and medium size skillet.

Raymond Wong: After we received our Proctor Silex Electric Single Burner Cooktop from UPS, my wife took one look at it and then put it back into the box. It was not what she envisioned at all. For starters, she thought she would be getting something a little bigger; something with more coil. Then, there was the price. In her mind, it was way too pricey for what she was paying for. This led her to shop around for something more ideal and eventually she found it, at Canadian Tire.

T. Mitchell: If you are looking for a sub-1000W burner, this is not what you are looking for. It runs a solid 1100-1200W constantly, regardless of temperature knob. It does work with my 1000W inverter but it does not go below 1000, so battery backup friends, just know it won't work with, say, an 850W inverter probably.

The Proctor Silex pros:

-Heats significantly faster, and water is actually boiling, however will have problems with medium and larger pots with more water.
-Easy to clean (you can lift up the coil)
-The coils have more surface area (i.e. more coiled metal) so it heats faster
-The coils have a flat top, so pots/pans stay on it much better

Cons:

-The power cord is very short. I had to get an extension cable (as you can't use a regular extension cable or you can start a file) with enough electrical capacity to carry the juice, such as this item: 12 Ft Appliance Extension Cord Heavy Duty, Gray - 14 Gauge 3 Prong SPT-3 Cable for Air Conditioner or Refrigerator (ASIN #: B07ZS2X5VB)
-The power LED comes on...
