Make your next camping trip a success with the Prandi German Style Hatchet.Nivekt: The head was a little loose but a few whacks on the base of the handle with a deadblow hammer sorted that out. I love the shape weight and look of it. It came nice and sharp and chops well. The leather sheath is also very nice and I recommend it.

GeorgiaGeorgia: For the price alone you should give this a try. I have more muscle than most woman due to my job but I believe this to be a fantastic weight. It’s heavy enough to carry a bit of a swing but light enough not to tire you out too much. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the handle was to grip both lower down for swinging and choking the head for precision work. The Prandi decal on the axe head began to rub off during the first use. Although it is a beautiful mark, I wasn’t terribly attached to it so it didn’t bother me.
The blade was decently sharp on arrival (useable!) but will definitely require some attention if you choose to use this for carving. I see it as a safety measure for shipping so I didn’t take off for it. Plus, if you are going to be using it you should get comfortable sharpening your own tools, anyhow, right?
For the price, this is a fantastic hatchet. I have no argument with it. The head is secure and tight. I bought the sheath and grip separate just for aesthetic reasons. I do not believe they are strictly necessary, except the sheath and if it is of the same quality as the hatchet then you could purchase the one that is offered with...

Paradise*GardensParadise*Gardens: After doing a lot of research and reading tons of reviews and watching utube videos, i settled on this budget friendly hatchet for my bushcraft and camping activities. It has the "bearded" axe head which allows me to choke up on it to do fine shaving or detail work. The sheath is decent although i wish it was a different design. The handle grain runs in the correct direction for strength and is sturdy. The axe head is coated with varnish so be aware of that. It was kind of sharp out of the box but not sharp enough for me. After using my stone, it has an edge like a knife now. Overall, its worth the money paid and im happy. I made a leather handle guard for it to add "cool" factor. Also, something i learned and would like to pass along... always hang up your axe when not in use, never lean it against the wall because it will get a bow in the handle over time, esspecially in damp and humid climates. Happy trails!

ibeenworkinontherailroad: Just got this hatchet so I will not comment on durability or love of its actual use, just my first impressions. Compared with the similar prices Husqvarna 13”hatchet, the handle is noticeable thicker. For me this is an instant turnoff. The handle feels like I am grabbing hold of a much bigger tool and in my opinion it has too much girth for the intended use. The handle is varnished so you guys know what that means... more prep work. The grain orientation on this example was about 45 degrees. I think it will hold up though; I’ve had Gransfors with the same angle on a hatchet with no issues. The head has a pretty nice grind; much better than the sloppy grind on the Huskys. It came sharp enough to chop wood but I will work on it with a stone. The bit is much wider than the husky, but I like that feature. The leather tassel on the end is too short to loop on your wrist- only useful for hanging it in the shop. No sheath but of course this was pointed out in the description. If I had to decide between the two I would go with the husky simply because the Prandi handle is just overkill and would require a lot of labor to make it desirable, and I think you can develop the husky into a...

fuzzybear: Prandi's German style thin profile, with a little added grinding, makes into a very nice carving hatchet. Scrape and sand the finish off the handle. I have the 600gr and wanted a little more weight so I got the 800gr.
My only problem is not with the hatchet. It is with Amazon. I paid for a sheath and did not, let me repeat did not receive a sheath with the order. The only option is go to Amazon for return/refund. This is not good business. There for I am required to leave a negative review of Amazon. A rubber blade cover does not resemble the sheath in the picture. I was able to find the factory sheath for this hatchet at Knife Country, USA, for those who have had the same experience with Amazon.
Again, I an very pleased with the hatchet. It fits my needs very well. Amazon should have the slogan "If you don't get what you ordered. You can send it back and wait for the refund to process or live with our screw up. I for one do not care to waste my time on their screw ups. Which evidently happen quite often.
