l2: We live in an area that is occasionally affected by automobile smog and wildfire smoke. This little gadget is inexpensive and gives us readings that correlate well with what PurpleAir and other websites are telling us. It doesn't exactly the same numbers as PurpleAir, but when you look at the different PurpleAir sensors in the neighborhood and PurpleAir's LRAPA and AQandU conversion factors, this gadget is always in the same range, so I think it is accurate enough for personal use.
Of course, the PurpleAir website doesn't help you with your indoor air quality unless you have a sensor inside your house. This gadget is far cheaper than the sensors that PurpleAir sells. Airmon's indoor accuracy is fine with me. When the Airmon says air quality is 75 AQI inside my house and I turn on my air purifier, I can see the air quality numbers improve on the Airmon device.
This $32 device is not going to be comparable to a device that costs hundreds or thousands of dollars, but I think it gives tremendous functionality for people who live in areas that are only intermittently affected by high pollution levels.
Some limitations with this device: battery life is about 3 days,...

Slappy's Childcare Clinic: I used to work in pharma cleanrooms, and we'd use $25K 6-beam laser particle counters. Interestingly enough, the counters we used had Sharp sensors, as does this little unit! With all the fires out here in California, I thought I'd try my hand at measuring the AQI. Comprable units are like 2-6X the price of this thing.
I had a little trouble with the unit "timing out" in the app, initialy, but I deleted the BT association in my phone, then added this device to the BT on my phone, using the phones BT menu (not the airmon app) and haven't had a problem since.
Battery life is wild, I've left the thing on overnight, and it still reports 100% battery to the airmon app.
For $33, it seems like a nice little thing. (The pics don't do it justice, its tiny, like nestle in the palm of your hand tiny.)

AmazonaholicAmazonaholic: The media could not be loaded. I live in the west coast where there are wildfires affecting air quality. I recently bought an air purifier but it doesn't have a built in air quality sensor, so I bought this to try and measure how well the thing is working.
I wasn't sure how well this works when I bought it, but because of Amazon's return policy and how cheap this is compared to other options I had to try it. Other options I saw were $100+ and with no smart connectivity. Only going to $200+ got something that's WiFi enabled. Mind you, this isn't, it uses Bluetooth, but that's way more convenient that a low tech manual handheld machine. As long as you aren't trying to do remote measurements or some home automation that turns on or off your air purifier etc. you won't need WiFi.
First thing, yes the instructions are mostly in Japanese and yes you can run into issues trying to run this thing. In fact when I got it, I couldn't get it to work despite rebooting the device, restarting the app, or toggling on and off Bluetooth on my Android phone. What did help was manually pairing the device through the Bluetooth settings. It was paired by the app, showing connected...

Nicholas T.: I am using it to monitor the particle levels in my woodworking shop. It came with instructions in Japanese but the manufacturer responded very quickly with an English version . Did't really need it thought. Once you download the app for your phone it walks you through the set up. I set up mine to take measurements every hour during my woodworking hours. After a week of use I downloaded the data to my spreadsheet program. It worked great. It measures the particles and humidity and temperature. I have doubts about the accuracy of the humidity readings I am getting and have sent a message to their help center about it. The temperature is accurate. I assume that the PM readings are also. When you download the spread sheet the data shows the measurements, the date and time, and the location. I guess it gets that information from the phone. I think this device is a steal at the price.

Customer 234567: Cheap little air sensor
Works and did get an air purifier / needed it
Does seem to take a few tires to get it to take a reading? Connecting / Failed / Retry
worked better away from other Bluetooth devices
It kind of annoying that it take 10 tries to get a reading but for the money I just tolerate it
