LarryLarry: Brand new, the clamps are very firm. This likely will ease with more use. Bamboo is replacing wood for good reasons as it hard and durable.
I find that leaving the left clamp as to hold the book and only repositioning the right clamp as I read is the most convenient way as I've depicted in my photo. The book easel has improved my reading by postioning the book at an ideal angle and distance to my eyes. A very worthwhile investment.
