Dave: I used this on my boat. I have to chlorinate the water tanks for sanitation. This filter completely removes the chlorine taste at the tap.

I use this cartridge in a standard Pentek under counter 10” housing, and it does a good job in improving the taste of my drinking water, primarily by reducing the chlorine taste. I’ve used Pentek filters for many years with good results. My municipal water is already good quality, so this filter isn’t being used to remove any specific contaminants, other than the chlorine taste, which it does very well.
This is a standard size 10” cartridge and will fit EVERY standard 10” housing, but may not fit many of the numerous proprietary non-standard housings. Most of those housings are designed to lock you into using a particular brand non-standard cartridge, usually at an inflated price.
Ignore reviews that complain that TDS (total dissolved solids) aren’t reduced, because no carbon block filter will reduce TDS readings, and lower TDS readings don’t necessarily mean better water quality. If you need to reduce TDS buy a reverse osmosis system.

This is an excellent filter IF for some reason you need 0.5 micron filtration. I'm not sure exactly who does. If you believe you have giardia or cryptosporidium cysts in the water, then a filter like this is not adequate. It will probably catch most of them, but it's not rated for non-potable water. You'd need something else to disinfect the water, like UV treatment.
There are downsides to sub-micron filtration. Most predictably, the flow rate is slower. A more surprising effect is that it made our water taste flat. It's not a softening filter, so it didn't make sense at first how this could be possible. Before installing an under-sink filter, we used a Brita pitcher, which while inconvenient and expensive, made great tasting drinking water (and tea and coffee). We live in Brooklyn, where the water quality is very good, with very low hardness. We just use filters to get rid of chlorine, and nasty flavors and odors from the pipes in our building.
I then learned that total dissolved solids, not just hardness, can effect flavor. And TDS includes suspended particles that are smaller than 2 microns. This means that 0.5 micron filter could significantly...

I love these filters. I have a three stage setup in my RV. I use a 5 micron then a 1 micron and then this carbon block. The water tastes great or actually it doesn't taste like mud or whatever local nasty stuff is in the water. The water doesn't taste like like a high end battled water because they add salts for flavor. This thing removes almost all flavor. Its just plain clean water. I do get a pressure drop after all three filters but this carbon filter preforms better than any others I've tried. My shower isnt getting tons of water deposit anymore. I filled two bowls with water one filtered from my three stage and one unfiltered, covered them with paper towel and let them evaporate. The filtered bowl still had deposits but it was small and minimal, more like a film of dust at the bottom. The unfiltered had yellow/tan crystals that formed in the bottom. It looked like beach sand. If you wanted to try this but fast just boil 1/2 a cup of water in a pan until its all gone. Just make sure to watch it and dont let your pan burn!
Some cites have deep wells where they get the water but its not always clean and sometimes doesn't pass regulations. ...
