Amazon Customer: It works really well for the tank and seems to be helping all my aquatic creatures and plants. Some things to be aware of is that at first the bubbler likes to float a bit. I could adjust it lower because of the way my lighting system works but just something to be aware of. It also can splatter a little mist of water out of the tank if you don't have a lid and keep the water pretty high. Again, not a big issue and it works well at keeping my tank aerated. Another thing to note is that it's not completely silent as advertised. It bugged me at night the first few nights but it eventually came to be like white noise. I keep the main part of it on a towel so it doesn't rumble around and make louder buzzing noises, but it is still noticable in volume.

Alethea Lymworth: OMG. This thing even says 'ultra quiet' on it, like they're trying to do Jedi mind tricks on you. But it honestly sounds like a miniature moped, and most of the sound travels down the tube into the tank. I ran it in a pickle jar full of clean water to give it a good cleaning. I thought it was borderline too loud to have in the house, then out of curiosity I picked up the jar and held it against my ear. My god is it ever loud! I wouldn't want to be a fish on the receiving end of this. It should come with fish-sized earplugs!!! Absolute joke to call this thing quiet. Back it goes.

Update: bought 10 gal pump but now have it sliced and one pump doing 55 gallon and 10 gallon tanks. So powerful I actually needed a valve to slow the air when I had it in the 55 gallon alone. Now I bought a second one for a tall 23 inch cylinder corner tank. The ten gallon air pump is running a back wall bubble stone creating a waterfall of bubbles in this 40 gallon. So, yes very powerful for a pump labeled 10 gallon. I suggest if you are using it on anything less that 30 gallons to get a valve to adjust the flow and not to blow out your fish : ). I love the small size. I replaced a very old pump that finally died on the 40 gallon and that pump was 3 x the size of this one. This has rubber feet and when placed correct makes VERY little noise. At one point I had one of these pumps aerating a 55 g, 20 g, and 1 gal all at once. So very strong. And again VERY quiet! The instruction were pictures only so being new to aquarium hobby I was a little intimidated setting up. But figured it out. I will always use this brand pump now! Pawfly.
