This is a perfect beach mat. It's lightweight, but heavy enough to hold up to a windy day. We took this, and a similar mat from Target with us on our last beach trip, and this one was a breeze to lay out and secure while the other flapped in the wind, folded, and was generally a pain to use. This one is durable as well, holding up to repeated use and sharp kitty claws. Sand slips right through so you're not left laying in a gritty mess. It's also pretty huge. It'll easily fit two adult, and probably kids as well.
When folded, it has a nice pouch big enough to hold a small portable fan, or whatever other essentials you might choose to pack, and it also has a handle for carrying.

Just brought this to the beach and really was surprised at how well it worked. Its very light but lays flat and with a little sand on each corner it stayed put. The straw feels like it has a plastic type coating on it which is soft and smooth. The sand from the kids feet sifted through relatively well and by the end of the day it was still a good place to sit or keep the towels and other things out of the sand. It folds up into its own carry pouch and shakes out the sand really quickly. I wasnt expecting to be this much different from a plain blanket but it certainly was. It was also bigger than I expected

I had a mat made of the same material before, but my sister stole it. So I wanted another one. Didn't know this brand so wasn't sure how good the quality would be. I've used it only once and it seems to hold up fine. I like the synthetic straw because it is water resistant, and, therefore, easy care (real straw will break and mildew more easily if not taken care of). It's not waterproof, since the straw is woven together, not one solid piece of plastic. But I knew this and is fine with this. From past experience, the woven structure also means that if I use it on a sandy ground, the sand that gets on the surface will fall through, leaving the mat comfortable to step on without getting sand allo ver my feet.
Used it on a dewy park lawn, but once the sun came out, the dewy grass underneath dried out.
Nice, big size. Bigger than most fold-up picnic mats.
