george emersongeorge emerson: Over the years I have bought countless self-help book on this topic trying to improve myself. I was in a very stressful demanding job as a Director and was going crazy. This was the reason of me buying so many books trying to find my problem as it seam that it was always my problem. I found this book and decided maybe I will finally find my answer on what is going on in my head. OH MY GOSH I found the answer!!!!! This book was spot on. I felt like it was written just for me! If you are reading this then you are in the same place I was YOU NEED TO BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!! I wish I found this book 10 years ago then I wouldn't have gone through so much hell. Because my job was so stressful my home life was just as bad. It is very hard to separate work and home especially when your work life never ends at 5pm. I was always on edge and was over thinking every move I made. After reading this book it really opened up my mind and helped me clear the venom or poison out of my head. To put it this way 6 months ago I was thinking divorce. Today my wife says she loves the new me. This is not a book on marriage but it does help you find that balance you need in your life and...

MelanieMelanie: Brian Sachetta gives a true human take on anxiety, and how to deal with it on a daily basis. You won’t get bogged down in theory but will instead find a practical guide on living with anxiety. I particularly enjoyed the section on language and negative self talk patterns.

Ultimately the book teaches you to zoom out and focus on the big picture, rather than getting caught up in the minutia of modern life. Especially in the current landscape where it’s never been easier to consume negative information.

A really great book and one which deserves a place among the greats of the genre

DogLover: Living with depression and anxiety is rough. While I have never panic attacked myself out of a date, I have made myself undesirable by virtue of mental and emotional meltdowns. Having read a few similar books, such as the subtle art of not giving a f*** I understand the perspective. There are a lot of techniques in here that are encouraged in traditional therapy and counseling. You cannot read a book and fix your brain. Like an asthmatic needs an inhaler, you need to get real help to combat mental illness. But sometimes a good book of shared experience is worthwhile.

Anne: This is a well organized and well written book about the authors’s personal struggles with anxiety, -which he has successfully turned into a practical manual for how to manage this often crippling condition. The first part of the book presents strategies for short-term relief of anxiety, using breathing to calm the nervous system, and a list of ‘anchor’ points to use when in the midst of an anxious attack. He then delves into ways of cultivating long term calm and equanimity, advocating self awareness and the ability to self observe and develop ways to gain agency over internal states. He defines anxiety as the fear of the unknown, and a battle between our rational and emotional brain, -and emphasizes the fact that we cannot think our way out of anxiety. It is a predominantly physical experience. It requires practice and awareness, and an acceptance of the limits of the rational mind's control over life’s events.
I applaud the authors candid tone, and his desire to break the taboos around mental health in America!

Jamie Bee: I adore reading nonfiction, and unfortunately, much of what I read seems to look at the subject superficially, as if the author were trying to make a quick buck on a popular topic or trend. That's why I found this book a particular delight, despite its subject matter. This book results from the author’s 10-year deep-dive research looking into anxiety and panic attacks so he could relieve his own. He has analyzed and distilled his learning into ways that have worked for him to overcome anxiety when it happens in a particular situation as well as looking at ways to decrease it in the long term. The book is imbued with personal stories and well-referenced research. He also gives you specific steps and actions to take to help decrease your anxiety in the short and long terms. Sometimes books that are so grounded in the author's life experience can have an imbalance between the sharing of the author's story and the practical applications for the reader. The author has managed to walk that tightrope perfectly. I think this book would be helpful both for people who have occasional anxiety as well as those who suffer from clinical anxiety. Thanks, Mr. Sachetta, for...

Amazon Customer: Over the course of my career - which since 2002 has included professional practice as a school and counseling psychologist, academic appointments in applied psychology, and substance use treatment - I've become intimate with best practice in diagnosing and treating anxiety across the lifespan. Sachetta's three tenets of anxiety are consistent with best practices and much more concise than most of what is available to professionals. Not only that, these three tenets could easily be transformed and validated as a screener to identify people who struggle with anxiety. In my daily practice of SUD treatment, over 80% of the clients whom I treat have either substance-induced or co-occurring anxiety disorders. Any professional in this field worth a damn should know that anxiety has notably consistent features. Additionally, people suffering with anxiety are quite aware of their personal struggles with the "disorder." Sachetta's book tells this story, in a flowing and easy-to-read prose that is not weighed down with the ominous "trust me, I'm a professional" citations. His treatment of anxiety is real, it is human, and it is based upon - and motivated by - a personal...
