Saunders: A fantastic self-help guide to addressing muscular and joint aches and pains! The background reading to each section is very useful, but somewhat lengthy, but I persevered and have gained a great deal of knowledge about my body and how it works.
This book was recommended by my very effective physiotherapist who practices some of the techniques described in the book. Invaluable when my favourite physio is 8,000 miles away!

ShyGal: About a year ago I broke my collarbone when my horse landed on me. Can you say, "Ouch"? Because I refused surgery (even though it was recommended in my case) I had to find alternative methods for healing. A friend recommended ortho-bionomy to me. Luckily, I had a great practitioner within a couple hours distance. He helped me tremendously with this method, and my collarbone (which was in 2 pieces that were inches apart) is now completely healed and I have full range of motion.

But what if you don't have a practitioner near you? I have recommended this approach to several of my friends, but to no avail because there were not practitioners nearby. So I decided to check out this book. I have tried out mainly the self-care techniques for the areas that bother me the most--my low back, my shoulders (from my work, computer-based), and my knees. The techniques work quite well, and the book is clear, with many pictures and clear instructions.

The only reason I give this book four stars is that I wish there was a deeper explanation of this method and why it works so well at the beginning of the book. Maybe I am biased because I have had someone work on my rather than relying...

MsAnnaNOLA: The techniques in this book are easy to do. The techniques will relieve your pain relatively effortlessly. The techniques will save you money on pain medication and doctor's visits. I would recommend every family having this book around as a reference. There is nothing like having the power to take your own pain away in the middle of the night.

I originally got the book for back pain and it did wonders. One night I was in so much pain in my shoulder (probably repetitive stress from computer work) I could not sleep. I finally remembered this book. I went to the living room and got out the book and I easily used the table of contents to locate the shoulder releases. I ended up doing all the lower back releases, then did shoulder releases on the good shoulder (the way my massage therapist does) then did the shoulder releases on the bad shoulder. By the time I finished the releases on the bad shoulder the pain was completely gone. I had only spend about 20 to 30 minutes, I had taken no pain meds and I was learning the shoulder releases (all 8) from scratch. WOW! I was already a believer but WOW!

Even better than having the releases is having very easy isometric...

Gail L. Thompson: This is one jewel of a book. First and formost the techniques work and you will be amazed. The instructions are clear, concise, and understandable to the average person with no bodywork experience. The photo's show exactly what to do and how to do it. I was really surprised at all the possibilities for self care. It is also a wonderful resource for the practitioner on many levels. I especially appreciated her insightful commentary. The depth and breadth of Luann's experience is a gift to all of us. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful anatomy drawings. There are some of the best I have ever seen, and what a difference they make to the understanding of this work. I am using the self care techniques myself and I am excited to pass this information on to my clients. If you are familiar with Ortho-Bionomy(R) you know firsthand how amazing this work is, now through Luann's book on self care, it will reach an even wider audience. Luann is a gifted teacher in person or in print. I guarantee that this is one book that you will refer to often and get confidence in your ability to self care.

M. N. Roosevelt: It's fabulous!!!!!! I love everything about it. Two of the things I like most are the stories at the beginning of each chapter, which make it a great read, and the thorough references forward and backward to other chapters and exercises that are linked to each other.

It makes Ortho-Bionomy stronger for having a readily available resource for self-care. For practitioners it is a great review which helps us help ourselves (I'm excited about experiencing each exercise), and gives us the extra confidence to show our clients how to continue the work on themselves. It is also a wonderful presentation of the work as a mindful and self-responsible way to be in the world. It is so full of love and compassion for the learning curve in helping ourselves, with Luann's great examples.

The pictures came out great, and the diagrams help educate without looking complicated. The layout is even calming, with plenty of open space to encourage breathing and relaxation. I can only think that Arthur LIncoln Pauls would be so happy to have his work and spirit presented to the public in such a beautiful way. Very simple, grounded, but with the challenge to be even more comfortable... It's a...
