Nurse DM: This is my second Oreck upright sweeper in 21 years. I loved (almost) everything about my first one. I am mostly satisfied with this new one. My greatest dislike is the VERY STIFF and HARD TO MANAGE cord. I like that the cord is long but it is very UNMANAGEABLE when it comes to wrapping the cord around a MUCH TOO SMALL double hook design. Secondly, it requires an extra step to place the sweeper in an upright position so you can walk away without the sweeper falling over. Would I buy it again? Probably. It has great suction! But it surely would be a plus to make some changes in the areas I've mentioned.

RP Chance: I just "retired" our old Dirt Devil lightweight a few weeks ago, the beater brush had jammed, belt broke and it just wasn't doing the job it used to even before that. Attempts to replace this old unit with a newer Dirt Devil failed some time ago, the new unit just didn't measure up to our old standard. It was light weight, noisy and the attachments weren't the greatest but it sucked up debris like a champ.

So I'm looking at new vacuums on Amazon and I see the same thing repeated. Cheap, fragile, jams easily, parts breaking off, attachments not working as expected...gad. So I revisit what I want in a vacuum and one thing our old one did well was...vacuum the floor. We have a battery powered Black and Decker (2 actually) and they work great when I need an attachment to dust or clean the couch...etc.

So I chose the Oreck and it does exactly what I wanted it to do. I have seen other reviews complaining about the lack of attachments, no headlight, a heavy AC cord...on and on and all true. But you know what? This thing pulls dirt and debris off the floor like crazy. It also has a nice feature, there are side openings that allow you to vacuum right up to the baseboards. We...

R. Smith: This vacuum is royally awesome. It has fantastic suction power and is very light. The cord is a perfect length--long enough that you don't have to keep unplugging a lot, but not so long as to add unnecessary weight or encumbrance. We previously had a Bissell 9595A, which is kind of an entry-level bagless vacuum that is very highly rated on this site. Before that we had a Hoover WindTunnel, bagless--this was a "best buy" from Consumer Reports. Years ago we had a Eureka Boss, with bag, which also tends to get decent reviews. We liked all those and they had their place and season in our lives, but this Oreck is easily three times more powerful than any of those. Do yourself a favor and stop reading the reviews and just buy this sweet sweet appliance. Some reviews have mentioned that this vacuum is loud. It is loud, but that must be because of the powerful engine that creates such glorious suction. Would you complain about an F-16 being loud?

If you are considering a bagless unit, I would advise against it based on our experience. The canisters on bagless units fill up quickly, and with both of our prior bagless models the entry hole to the canister clogged up pretty easily,...
