Ripley: I was apprehensive about purchasing this specific model because I saw a lot of people complaining about the noise, or the motor going out, but I had no such problems. I made about two batches of ice cream a week for the whole summer, and didn't have a single issue with the motor.
As for the noise, well. It's an old-fashioned machine with a working motor, it's going to be a little noisy. It's not as bad as people are making it seem.
I had a great time with this, the motor worked well even when I overworked it and threw huge chunks into the ice cream. It was fun to experiment with flavor combos, Bits combos, and various custard recipes and figure out what works. The number 1 tip i would give ppl looking to try this out is to make sure you freeze your container and the paddle for at least a few hours before attempting to make ice cream because it absolutely improves the quality and makes it much easier.

queennabidabi: I do! I've been wanting an ice cream machine for a long time. I finally took the plunge with this unit. My first batch (easy chocolate-from the included book) tastes more like a fudgscicle than ice cream, but I chalked that up to the recipe. And I do love fudgsciles.
The second thing to remember is that it uses A LOT of ice. For a small batch, have at least 5 pounds of ice. Ice cream salt works the best, too.
Unit is very easy to clean despite its size.
Overall, I'd give this machine 4.5 stars.
