Kirt: My folks used white mountain mixers, and I have too all my life. I'm 56. Went to get a new motor, and they are really hard to find, and they are not making them anymore.
So I tried this one. Smaller mixer, 4 qt vrs 6 qt.
The ice cream tastes just as good coming from it as it did the white mountain. AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAN ON MAKING ICE CREAM 2 OR MORE DAYS AHEAD OF TIME!!!! (with the W.M.'s, you had to soak the wood barrel for a couple days to get it to soak up the water so it would seal.)
And as it's all plastic, no wooden stirring center section, it's all machine washable, so clean up is better.

AmazongirlAmazongirl: I bought this machine just over two months ago but finally opened and used it today. I wasn’t sure if this dent in the rim of the canister was supposed to be there or not. It is obviously not supposed to be there. It doesn’t seem to seal super well with that but I just figure that I’ll make sure the top layer in the bucket is ice, not salt so at worst, I could get a little watery ice cream and not salty. I wish I had opened it sooner because I would have exchanged it within the return time. Otherwise, I soaked raisins in rum for a couple days and made the cooked vanilla recipe that comes with the machine and then added the raisins after it was frozen. It’s delicious!

Sora: The media could not be loaded. Thought this was an electrically cooled unit. Was not expecting to need to go and buy 10lbs of ice just to use it. Given that knowledge the price seems to be a bit steep. Cause who the hell has room to make that much ice!?
Lame.
I'll update this after I've managed to procure enough ice to try this. But for now be warned.
Update 1: followed the instructions to a T and it says I should have icecream in about 20-40mins. It's been 2 1/2 hrs and it's still soup. It's also absurdly loud and I can hear it all the way downstairs even with the TV on even though it's in the kitchen on the opposite side of the house.
Update 2: it's been going for 4hrs now and it's still slush. Will be returning.

Zac RagoonathZac Ragoonath: Your chosen ice cream mix may be perfect, great flavors and consistency;
You expect that when you place the motor over the bucket and it locks in and you see the metal container spin that it is also churning but no.
You need to place the motor over and rotate until it drop down flush to the top of the white pail - only then is the paddle shaft engaged into the motor. This is what actually churns the ice cream. After 45 mins of watching the container spin in the ice it didn't harden. Then I realized it was not churning. because it was not engaging the shaft.
20 mins of properly sitting it, ice cream.

AE: I've been wanting to make icecream all my life but was always intimidated. I took the plunge and my first batch of fresh mango ice cream was a home run!. The family just loved the freshness and quality, the ice cream will taste better than anything you can buy in-store. To make a creamy consistency without any annoying ice crystals, just thoroughly mix 1/8 spoon of xantham and guar gum powder in your icecream mixture (in a blender) before you churn and you'll be a star at home!

JoyceB: 1st, a great value. If you get cream at a bulk store, 6 bucks for a 50 pound sack of rock salt, ice from your freezer, and a few pennies for the other ingredients (sugar and vanilla), you're looking at a gallon of high quality ice cream for 5 bucks or less. Figure you're saving 5-7 bucks a use. That means this unit pays for itself if you use if 6 times, maybe 10-20 times if you're spending a lot on added ingredients.
2nd. Simple to use. Really well designed. Can't for the life of me understand people sticking plastic orange juice container parts to "fix" it. If it doesn't work, bring it back! Otherwise, top only goes on one way, and there's a locking feature that means that the unit must be properly assembled to fit correctly.
3rd. For people saying "it uses a lot of ice, and I had to run to the store . . . " my lord people, are we that helpless? You own a freezer, right? Make your own ice. All it takes is just a bit of planning. Just a bit people, not invading-Soviet Russia level planning. If you have an auto ice maker on your freezer, just empty it into a very large zip lock 2 or 3 times and you're good to go.
4th. The unit stops spinning when the ice cream...

Azaria L.: As long as you keep adding your ice and salt, you’ll have ice cream ready in 45min. It’s kinda soft, but I made it early for a party and threw it in the freezer and it was perfect.
