SBN CodeySBN Codey: My girlfriend prefers plant pots with drainage holes, but often cute pots don’t have them. These bits work well for cutting holes in the bottoms of ceramic planters.

I learned it does not take much pressure; let the bit grind away material slowly. It’s easier to get the bit started that way and it leads to a cleaner hole. Pressing down will make the bit jump around when starting the hole and can chip the opposite side when the bit breaks through.

I also like to drill in a big bowl or bucket full of water, so I don’t get ceramic dust everywhere.

No complaints, would buy again.

Darbysan: I needed to drill 1 hole to mount a handheld shower head in a granite shower. I tried epoxy and heavy duty 3M tape, but none worked. I knew I had to drill a hole, and decided to try this product. I only drilled one hole, 9/32" x 3/4" deep. Used water to cool the bit every 10 seconds. First 2/3 of the hole went pretty good, but then it got harder to make progress. Did eventually get the hole through, and was able to install a screw anchor and mount the head, but the drill bit by then was more than 50% worn down, and I doubt I could get another hole of this size.

For the price, I think it worked OK. Just don't expect to get multiple holes per drill size.

Erik Niemi: Bought them for a shower door install and shower wand mount. Even with water for cooling, the 5/16" bit lasted 4 and a 1/2 holes and was worn out. So not the longest lasting bits but also not as expensive as the name brands in store, so I guess it depends on how long you need them to last. Porcelain Tiles was 3/8" think, so you'd likely get more use out of them on thinner tiles.

tom: Need a 5mm and omit the 8mm; dim is too near 1/4. Worked great dry on subway tile using 1/4 inch bit. Hold drill at 45 angle, cutting a crescent into the surface, then gradually bring bit perpendicular to surface of item being drilled. DO NOT start the drilling with the bit perpendicular to surface; the bit will try to walk. Do not press hard on the drill. Be gentle and let the bit do the cutting with RPM fairly high. Should be NO smoke! Sizes are a bit too close for the 1/4 and 5/16. here are the actual bit diameters: .160, .305, .350, .415, .520. These are also sized as 4,6,8, 10, and 12mm. However, the 1/4 on up are about 20% oversize. The 1/4 (at .305) is too close to the 5/16 (at .350). Set would be better to omit the 5/26 and have a 3/16 (5mm) bit instead. Judging by the oversize, that would provide a better spread of increasing diameters. Will have to buy a 3/16 (5mm). Since I only bought this set to drill FOUR 1/4 holes, don't know how long it will last. However, after looking at the bit under a loupe, it appears intact after one hole so far drilled dry.

Louise F.: Bought this diamond tipped hole drill bit set to be able to drill drainage holes in some small pots to use for succulents. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how well the bits cut through the pots. Just be sure to keep the surface you are cutting through wet and frequently dip the bit in water to keep it cooled down, Go in short bursts too. These steps will keep your bits in good working order to last longer.

Gerardo Galíndez: Tras batallar perforando cerámica con brocas de concreto, compré una broca de 1/4" (6.4mm) de Austrodiam (Austromex) y me impresionó tanto que busqué más brocas de diamente.

Encontré este juego y decidí comprarlo.

Ni de lejos es comparable, pero cabe aclarar que una sola broca de Austromex costó poco más de la mitad que este estuche con 6 piezas. La velocidad con la que desbasta el material es menor y la duración es dramáticamente menor: Estas brocas sólo duran unos cuantos hoyos y ya. Para hacer la chamba de una ocasión es suficiente, pero para conservarla y hacer trabajo recurrente y/o pesado, es mejor invertir en algo de más calidad.

Como notas extra:

1. Las brocas de diamente se deben usar lo mejor lubrica das posible, ya sea con agua sola o con un poco de jabón (el de platos esta bien). La velocidad máxima de la mayoría es de ~2k RPM. Más de eso y pierde la lubrica ión muy rápido, por lo que el desgaste es mayor.
2. Como guía general: Hay que humedecer la punta, perforar y removerla antes de que deje de salir "lodo" (polvo humedecido) y salga seco. Mejor aún, con ayuda de alguien más, se puede usar un atomizador para...

My seedlings have started to produce flowers and I wanted to transfer some of them onto ceramic cups and bowls for display purposes. After purchasing a few beautiful cups and bowls, I found that drilling holes into ceramic material wasn’t easy. It took a couple of hours to drill five holes at the bottom of three cups using masonry bits. There had to be a better and quicker way. After some online research, I found that I needed diamond drill bits. A search on Amazon for inexpensive diamond bits led me to Neiko Tools’ Diamond Grit Hole Saw Drill Bit Set.

== Packaging

As seen on the included photos, packaging of the set is very simple. The bits are housed inside a styrofoam cutout. No fancy plastic case, just the bits, the styrofoam, and the external packaging that contains the name and picture of the product.

I was fine with the simple packaging because it is a factor in reducing overall cost.
