These lay over. The arm of the sofa and tuck under the cushions. You really need upholstery pins or Velcro or something to secure the ends though.

I really like this mat - the cat wasn't so sure but she's coming round to it. I especially like the blue colour, as it blends in well to my teal sofa rather than standing out like the beige one I had previously. I found it fitted best when I used a couple of screws and washers to attach the bottom edge to the underside of my sofa, this meant I could really pull it tight over the arm so it was smooth and didn't move, and tuck the rest under the cushion to hold it in place - so far it hasn't gone anywhere, although I expect to need to adjust it occasionally if the cat really starts having solid scratching sessions on it.

Tiene mal olor, mis gatitas no se acercan siendo así cumple la función de protector pero NO de rascador... Ahora mis gatitas rascan otro lado del mueble :(

So far, my cat hasn't tried to use the scratch pads. I think she will overtime, but these give off a chemical smell when you first open them, and I know cats are big on scent. So far, she has not tried to use them at all. They do seem sturdy and I do anticipate that she will eventually use them, after she gets used to them. They seem to stay put well and I like the style.
