TRUTHSAYER: Would be a fabulous back brace, IF it fit. I've used Mueller braces in the past, but have gained weight and knew I'd need a larger one. This is advertised to accommodate up to a 50" waist, and it simply would never happen. Unstretched, mine was about 38". My equatorial area is about 44". I almost cut my own oxygen supply off, trying to stretch that band 6" and then close the velcro straps. The brace is made of very sturdy elastic, not the wimpy kind which stretches all out of shape in a heartbeat: This stuff is STURDY. That's great, except it's not exactly very stretchy, as a result. Mine sits in a corner, unused, as I can't breathe when I put it on. So I'm conflicted in how to rate this. I know they are grand back braces if they fit, sturdy and supportive, so would be inclined to give 5 stars based on *past* experience. BUT, this is not past experience. I cannot use something which is smaller than advertised, so for that reason I'd give it 1 star. Finally, I decided to split the difference and give it 3 stars, based on both past and present experience. TL;DR: Great brace, if you get one which fits. Caveat emptor.

Santadad.: i had one i used for a couple months and the metal supports wore holes in the brace and fell out.

come on i understand they are not supper expensive however muller would need to do something to prevent the seems to come apart and the metal supports i lost, they fell out one by one

overall great brace for lumbar support and the best one i tested out of 14 different types of other brands they all cut me rubbed me raw
muller you make a functional brace however i did not expext its short life less than a yr

i have had total of 5 muller braces some last little longer some little less, = quality controll stitching comes out ,i fixed it with dark thread 5 times sowing the metal sepports back in to the brace only downside= and muller will replace it i
i have to use my brace everyday spinal stenosiss low back arthritis pain etc buy buy buy muller i would appreciate a call if you read this

Teddy Rose: There's a lot of outside work to be done here. I love this place but by night I am doing what I call my monkey walk. A friend told me, "GET A BACK SUPPORT!" I did and began to wear it when engaged in dancing with my weed whacker, motoring about the yard on the "BEAST" other wise known as the riding lawn mower.

Amputating large branches with a single snip and removing bugs, spiders and other interesting things from my hair when I forget to duck. By the end of one of these days I do really feel like "the ruins".

Now that I have a little support from my elastic friend I am doing better ! I haven't had it very long but do put it one when I stand a long time or play in my yard.

I think you could say I am happy with it ! Teddy

Readerfangirl: I sprained my spine while caregiving my daughter. I managed to hurt my lower lumbar and both the orthopedic surgeon and the chiropractor recommended a back brace. I found this one on Amazon and since I wasn't in any shape to drive around town trying to find one, I ordered this. Really helped! I've been wearing it for a month now and it has made my life a lot more bearable. I can tightend and loosen as necessary, which is something that I do end up doing. My only complaint is I need to wear it on my hips a bit and it pops up frequently - it's made more for a man than a woman's shape. Ah, well, nothing is perfect. Oh, and it's not nearly as big across my back as the picture leads you to believe. I'm almost 5'8" so I just assume the model is very short. Mine does not reach my shoulder blades - it's only about 6 inches in the back.

onlineshoppinggeek: The Amazon 'Product Description' (as of Aug 2008) states that the product is "Machine washable, Drip dry." However, the actual manufacturer's packaging states "Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and air dry."

(This is not the first product I've seen that Amazon claimed was machine washable but turned out not to be. I made my purchase primarily based on the machine-washable claim, so I feel that Amazon has wasted my time and money by posting false information about the product.)

Also printed on the box of the Mueller Adjustable Back Brace #4581, but not posted on Amazon: "CAUTION: This product contains natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions. Constructed of a neoprene blend which may cause skin irritations. If rash develops or pain persists, discontinue use and consult a physician."

Amazon's 'Product Features' says the product fits waists 24-44 inches, but the actual box says 28-44 inches.

I just received the item today, so cannot review its effectiveness. But it looks like a well-constructed product and its velcro did not scratch me while putting it on and when wearing it. It does seem a little hard to bend...
