rootDG: The cable stopped working about 1 month after I installed it. I turned on the monitor and the screen that's connected via this Displayport cable was completely blacked out but not reporting a "No Signal" message. I checked the settings on the monitor and they were still pointing at the Display port. I then moved on to using a different type of cable (USB-c) just to rule out the monitor and laptop. This configuration was working fine so I thought this Display cable had gone bad. Contacted amazon.com support and explained what had happened, they understood the issue and sent me a replacement cable.
I Installed the replacement cable about 1 week ago and everything was working fine until this morning when I was about to start work, I turned the monitor on and once again the screen was black. I could understand 1 cable being bad but a 2nd one going bad within 1 week of use! This is now very strange! I did a google search on "displayport cable stopped working" and the very first link (https://tinyurl.com/yjdrxt2q) that I clicked on suggested this: "Try disconnecting the monitor from power for a minute to reset it." Sterling M. SmithSterling M. Smith: I got these to connect 2 monitors to my Surface Pro 7 using the Surface Dock (1 gen model). The Surface Dock has 2 mini-DP output jacks and my monitors luckily have DP input ports.
At first, I thought these cables were bad because they just wouldn't work with my Surface Dock at all. If you have the Surface Dock and these don't work for you, don't be quick to blame the cables because it's most likely not the cables (for this particular scenario which I will describe).
The Surface Pro Dock worked with the Display Port when it first came out, but then Intel changed their software drivers for the display chip inside the Surface Dock. Since Windows 10 looks for and updates everything to the latest version of the software, they dutifully update Intel drivers whenever Intel releases new ones.
The problem is that the *newer* version of the Intel graphics drivers (on the Surface Pro 7) doesn't work with the Surface Dock . . . AT ALL! This took me a while to figure out and the solution is very stupid, but it works. You have to manually load an older version of the Intel IRIS graphics drivers for the Intel Integrated graphics.
