RAF: The instructions indicate the battery cover just slides off. There are two screws on the back side which hold the battery cover in place. Loosen these screws and the battery cover is released.

Ponto: Poor instructions on how to remove battery cover to replace battery. My battery was dead upon arrival and there is no mention of loosening a screw initially so the cover can be removed. This needs to be addressed promptly.

SebastopolMark: They appear to be a quality caliper. Feel heavy in the hand and have an easy to read display.
BUT, they did not work when I received them and it was problematic to find and open the battery compartment.
Problem solved: The battery that came with the calipers was DEAD. Luckily, they came with a second battery?? Maybe that is a common problem so they ship with a 2nd battery.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: I haven’t actually been able to test my caliper to give it a proper review because it came with a dead battery. When I tried to replace the battery by following the instructions the cover wouldn’t budge. If you look that the picture of the instructions on how to replace the battery, it indicates to slide the cover in the direction indicated. First, there’s no arrow indicating any direction to slide. So using common sense, i tried to slide the cover to the right first, and when that didn’t work, up and to the right. Still nothing happened. I saw a tab under the cover and thought maybe it was a locking tab which had to be depressed before allowing the cover to slide out. Used a small screwdriver and pushed down on the tab only to make a dent in the tab and scratch the cover.
Thankfully someone else had this problem and asked on Amazon. The secret is that there’s a screw on the backside holding the cover which must be removed before you can LIFT (not ”slide”) the cover off.
I sent the first one back because I couldn’t figured it out the first time and thought it was defective.
Update the instructions and I’m sure fewer people will return the product.

ArashArash: For the price, it is a good caliper. Digits are large enough and seems sturdy and decent built. Not like those super flimsy ones. However, it has a very bad design when it comes to changing the battery. I struggled with it and ended up using a screw driver to open it up, hence all those marks on it from now on. Now, it needs a tape!
The other downside of it is that it doesn't stay off. Once it is touched or moved a bit, it turns on and that drains the battery.
Beside these two issues, it works fine for me.

Les qualités
Ce pied à coulisse est tout en métal, pas de plastique. Son poids en témoigne d'autant, dès qu'on le sort de sa boîte : c'est du solide. Le vernier est précis. On le ferme (fermement : on devrait entendre un "clic" quand les deux pinces font contact), puis on appuie sur le bouton de mise à zéro. Pour ma part, après plusieurs utilisations il n'a pas encore changé l'origine, malgré les mises en boîte etc., et reste aussi précis. Plusieurs mesures fines d'un même objet donnent le même résultat, tous digits confondus.

Les défauts
Le petit bouton qu'on doit titiller pour faire coulisser le vernier, ce n'est pas une bonne idée. Bien que ce soit par design, et que ça fonctionne très bien quand on appuie sur la molette en même temps qu'on la tourne (sinon c'est lousse et ça tourne dans le vide), ça fait un peu "cheap", et surtout ça ne donne pas un confort de précision.
Le seul gros défaut de cet appareil : pas de lumière sur l'écran. Impensable, et frustrant sur le coup (tout est parfait, mais paf, il manque une évidence)...

DMA: Why is this not more popular?! I know there are cheaper versions out there everyone, but I'm so glad I put down a few more quid for this one.

I bought this to replace the really generic chinese version with the red/yellow/blue buttons. It was OK, and great for the price, but there were a few things that annoyed me. [1] Battery compartment cover kept falling off [2] zero it, open it, close it - not back at zero - not far out, but rarely zero [3] just felt a bit scabby. But yeah, it was a tenner so great value, does the job, annoyed me a bit.

So I decided to be REALLY lavish and throw silly money at another. Yeah 22 quid! But that's literally twice as much. So is it better? God yes! [1] Returns to zero [2] build quality - feels more "starrett/mitutoyo" standard than "silverline" [3] Inches as fractions is an option, not just decimal inches - no more trying to remember that 7/8" is 0.875" [4] battery cover is screwed down, and you get a little screwdriver that fits in the moulded case [5] declared IP54 so splash and dust proof [6] nice case [7] EXTRA battery - OK they're cheap, but when was the last time you got something WITH batteries, and an extra one too.
