snave51: Molly Murphy is doing her best to work at her choice of jobs, being a detective . Captain Daniel finds her a new place to live and all seems well until Seamus and the children come to live with her. Paddy Riley , her mentor is killed and suddenly the children's relatives desend upon her .
The descriptions of life in early 1980s is interesting. Through her persistent, and brave efforts to find Paddy's killer she meets the artists and writers living in Greenwich Village. Again interesting lives . Great history - mystery !

Kindle Customer Carol E: Having rated Book 1 in the series 3.5 stars, I decided to try Book2. Unfortunately, I just don't find Molly Murphy an enticing character. She was too naive and foolhardy for my reading enjoyment. In fact, I didn't like any of the characters that much. I rate this book 2.5 and will give up on the series. Obviously many readers have enjoyed the series, just too much fluff for me.

Juliette Moody: I really enjoy Molly Murphy mysteries, just wish they were all on kindle unlimited I can’t afford to read them all and that is sad as they are very well written and I love how naive she is but willing to accept all the things that shock her as well. She is a very accepting women of her time and a very good private eye in the making. I only wish Riley lived a bit longer as it would’ve been nice to see them interact with each other and teach her the ropes, but I guess she’s smart enough to solve things on her own. Loved how well this book moved along. I love Sid and Gus as well great new characters. O and of course handsome Daniel Sullivan.

Pontiki: I enjoyed the world of New York in the early 1900s, and going around with Molly as she searches for Paddy's killer. I did guess who it was, although I was misled for a bit.
What I didn't get was the how. How this seemingly minor character would be the murderer. Now I see, and it was a huge event in history. I love the intertwining of the truth with fiction, and Molly's cleverness in searching for the killer.
The romance is a bit lacking, especially since Daniel's engaged, but it's nice. I love all the characters from the Village, and the old woman Molly was the companion for, for a few days anyway.
Looking forward to reading the next book.

I love sports: A storyline that gets you wrapped up in the enthralling ventures of Molly Murphy. Minor incongruities are totally washed aside by the clever plot and fascinating characters in this story.

lawyeraau: This is an enjoyable cozy mystery series featuring twenty-three year old Molly Murphy, a recent immigrant to America's shores sometime at the turn of the twentieth century. This is the second book in that series.
Fans of the first book will not be disappointed with this offering, in which the very independent Molly seeks her way to secure the American dream. After a brief stint as a lady's companion, she decides to become a private investigator, an unheard of occupation for a woman in the early nineteen hundreds. She becomes an assistant to Paddy Riley, a private investigator with a seamy reputation, and before long, he ends up dead.
This leads Molly on her own private quest to find his killer. Of course, Captain Daniel Sullivan of the New York City Police Department, with whom Mollie is in love, is in the picture, though complications have arisen in the romance department. With very little help and guidance, Molly has many adventures in her search for the killer, a killer who will stop at nothing to keep Molly from becoming successful in her quest for justice.
This is a lively, fun series of cozy mysteries that are well-written and offer interesting plots, as...

Wombatsbooks: Molly's second outing proved to be a dangerous one for her and quite an engrossing read for me:
No. 2 in the Molly Murphy series is set in the summer of 1901, a few months after her arrival to New York City. Molly is still sharing her flat with Seamus and his two kids. As has been insinuated in the first book, she has set her mind on becoming a private investigator. Daniel Sullivan tries to dissuade her and since reluctantly does a very short stint as a companion to an elderly, wealthy lady until her chance comes to work with PI Paddy Riley. Riley lets her work with him, but not the way she would have wanted to. One day she when she arrives for work, she finds Riley bludgeoned to death, the still in the office and assailing her. To hone her skills and because she is less than thrilled with the police investigation Molly vows to bring Riley's killer to justice and puts herself in the middle of danger again. To top things off, she finds out heartbreaking details about Sullivan & dastardly Nuala and her family have moved in with Molly and Seamus....
On her quest for Riley's killer she gets involved with an interesting Greenwich Village crowd who encourage her to do...

Patti Simons: Interesting story mixed with true facts. Perky, vibrant heroine. Very human in her daring and sometimes fool hearty decisions. She has a complicated love interest.
New York is a well drawn character w the wealthy, the immigrants, the slums and the mansions.
