carolintallahassee: I find this series entertaining, it would make a great series. I like the two male protagonists, Inspector Haze and Captain Redmond, both have become good friends, and both are men of integrity. I like the mysteries in each book, the author brings up uncomfortable realistic stories, but it unfortunately does happen in real life. I love the Christmas surprise for Micah, who is still too spoiled, he does need manners, he is sweet one minute and obnoxious the next. I highly recommend it. Thank you.

AAde: I love these book. I read some comments about the author not doing proper research, using americanised term, yada, yada, yada! Rubbish!! For me, Redmond and Haze are the 'detecting duo and I love reading about their separate lives and when they work together. The plots are very good with unseeable twists to them.
I rarely read a series, one book after the other. I normally read one or two, then leave them to read something else before going back to the series. However, with Redmond and Haze, my fingers have a mind of their own, and they've downloaded the next book even before brain has engaged. Great stories, great characters you will come to love and enjoy.

martha williams: The continued association of Redmond and Haze with new additions to the household of both Redmond Hall and the Haze residence. All the characters in these novels are interesting, even the minor characters. This deals with a bizarre murder and its ramifications. I do wish there had been more about Cecilia leaving, I can't imagine her being decent about it.

Tulip: Nive murder mystery with also a Christmas theme to it.
You can read it as a stand alone story but it is a lot more fun reading the series in chronological order due to the worldbuilding.

polish relative of murdered victims: Fantastically brilliant in its construction and plot. Keeps you guessing who the murderer is. Another cracking good yarn, well researched in its entirety

helen r: This is the third book of the series I have tried and I can’t help but find the Americanism irritating and the poor research into Victorian England is inexcusable.
Being constantly told how modern America is compared to old fashioned England jars, especially as Victorian decorating styles would have been Modern in Victorian times and wouldn’t have been described as Victorian in an old fashioned sense, and the annoying switch between the words autopsy and post mortem is very frustrating. I also find it difficult to believe that any police force, mindful of its reputation, would allow a self proclaimed surgeon from America to perform post mortems in a shed on his ‘estate’. Finally there are too many modern terms for this to be a good a historical novel and I am not ever eating cold cottage pie you can slice.

witch: These stories a a decent read, I like murder mysteries set in Victorian England. But they could do with a little more research into the aristocracy and historical facts etc. I would also enjoy them more if they didn't have Americanisms words we don't use in the UK and most certainly not in Victorian times, like 'burglarised', it's very annoying.

Daisymsg: This is book 3 of the Redmond and Haze series. This book has an audio file and is whisper synced. The narrator is Wendy Wolfson, who is a competent narrator. She has a pleasant voice, her cadence is easy to understand, however, she struggles with accents. I must listen carefully to hear the difference between her English and American accents. Also, male, and female voices are a stretch for her. If you want to hear a narrator who is better with accents, particularly American, listen to The Danger by Dick Francis, narrated by Tony Britton.
I find this plot too shallow for multiple reads. This first time is pleasant; beyond that it is nerve-wracking.
Her protagonists make an interesting team for the reader: Daniel Haze is a constable of a small English community. Dr. Jason Redmond is an American surgeon who has just inherited an English title. The difference in cultural background, education, and social standing make for an interesting tension even as the men are naturally drawn to each other in friendship.
Shapiro’s story line is competent; however, she is sloppy with details. For example, Dr. Jason Redmond has inherited a title from his English grandfather....

B. Rogers: I must say, the author definitely grabs your attention in the prologue with the very graphic description of the body and its discovery. However, the excitement factor definitely decreases after the prologue. Frankly, I’m just not sure where I’m going with this series. The books are nice, quick, light reads, but seem to be a bit formulaic (Murder happens -- Daniel is called -- Daniel calls Jason in -- Daniel runs around interviewing people -- Jason has a giant leap of logic and solves the case). I had looked forward to a true and equal partnership between Jason and Daniel, but it seems that Daniel does a LOT of leg work, interviewing, etc., but it is always Jason who makes the logic leap that solves the crime. At least this time Daniel solved the house-breaking ring mystery by himself. So, I have bought one more book in the series and will read that before deciding whether to continue or not.

In the very late hours of an extremely cold but bright night, Sadie Darrow finds the body of Frank, her husband, tied, naked, to the wheel of the old mill. She immediately sends her sons to report the murder to Inspector Haze and we are off and running on another mystery of many...

Wendy: “Murder at the Mill” the third intriguing murder- mystery in the “Redmond and Haze” series opens as Sadie Donovan looking for her husband Frank, finds him naked and strapped to a water wheel. With the help of the district’s acting coroner Captain Jason Redmond, newly promoted Inspector Daniel Haze quickly discovers the man was drowned before his body was displayed in such a disturbing manner. With Inspector Haze taking the lead in the case, the two begin an investigation that leads them to the shocking truth about Frank Darrow’s relationships which continually offer up more questions than answers.

Set in 1866 England, intensity and suspense quickly build with twists and turns as Haze and Redmond struggle to find a motive for the barbaric murder uncovering a trail of robberies in the area, an adulterous affair and a rape, all which heighten the mystery as they draw closer to identifying the murderer. Ironically with more details of the surroundings and buildup of tension as the investigation progressed would have helped create a more dark, uncertain landscape but increased the length of the story.
