Lisa T: I think this is the best of the series so far. Lots of fun with the characters and who can resist a skeleton walled up in an old castle. Lennox is a fabulous creation, along with his animal and human friends.

Caliope: Another delightful Lennox story that will keep you guessing. I would have awarded 5 stars if not for the tiresome verbiage. I honestly lost track of how many times the word "whatnots" was used. Good grief. Where were the editors?? Similarly, Swift's "hawkish" eyebrows were overused. There are other ways to create a description.

Catherine M Clark: I love Karen’s books, each one has intrigue and mystery to keep you turning the pages. I have read four so far and am about to begin the fifth in the series. I find the style of writing suits me down to the ground and the lead character, Lennox, is completely charming. If he didn’t enjoy shooting birds he’d be perfect!

Doobie Pagoda: Human beings simply don't act the way the people in this book act. There's one point in the plot where the hero walks into a room and sees a dead man sitting in a chair with a bolt fired from a long bow through his chest. There's reportedly blood all over, but instead of having the common sense to preserve the crime scene, our "hero" goes mucking about disarranging the body and even enlisting the help of someone else to put it back the way he found it. Both of them would (in reality) be covered with blood and puking their guts out from the smell, but our guy doesn't seem to lose his appetite at all. And then he lies to the cop about whether he touched something or anyone else came into the room. Sheesh! This is all so naive, it's like a book for 7-year-olds or something.

Ms. J. Nolan: Lennox came into his own as he cleverly deduced the tangled web of the old history of Braeburn. Full of atmosphere in this chilling castle ( in more ways than one). It certainly was a rather gloomy setting. I struggled through it at times as I found the setting rather depressing. Not just the story but the dismal environment. Nice there was a bit of romance though and loved the psychic lady!

Texanne: I love the books in this series. Heathcliff Lennox is a terrific hero, in spite of himself.

Lennox (he hates the name Heathcliff) is a former pilot in The Great War. He has returned home and finds himself with not a lot to do. He walks his dog Mr Fogg. He enjoys his kitten, Mr Tubbs. He fishes. He deals with his butler, Gregg. In short, he basically spends most of his time alone.

Every now and then he investigates along with his friend, former Scotland Yard inspector Swift.

Swift is married to a beautiful Scottish woman and they are expecting their first child. They live in her family home, Braeburn Castle. Lennox has received a telegram asking for his help. It seems a skeleton has been found in a wall of the castle. The skull with a crown still on it has gone missing. There are strange archaeologists all around. Swift needs Lennox to come.

Although this is the third book in the series, it can be a stand alone read. But, in order to truly enjoy this book and the entire series, I suggest you start with the first book, Murder at Melrose Court.

Immediately after Lennox arrives in Scotland, a dead body falls at his feet. A man evidently took a fall...

OLT: This is the third in what I hope will be an extended mystery series. The main character is a delight, the other characters, recurring or one-time ones, are quirky and fun to read about, the writing is good, the tone is wryly humorous, and the overall coziness of each book makes for a lovely, satisfying read.

These books have been described as being "Agatha Christie meets P.G. Wodehouse" in style and that is an apt description. They takes place in the 1920s just a year or so after the end of the Great war and are little slice-of-life stories, somewhat like a comedy of manners with murders, shall we say. The main character, Major Heathcliff Lennox (but do not call him Heathcliff, please) was a pilot in the war and his butler Greggs, with whom he has an entertaining and humorous relationship, was his batman then.

Now back home, Lennox is having a bit of an adjustment to civilian life, preferring solitary activities such as fishing or walking his dog, Mr. Fogg (aka Foggy) in the countryside around his slowly declining estate. He does bestir himself to attend family functions and, beginning with Book 1, in which he visits his uncle, encounters several dead bodies, and is...
