i LOVE this paper! and i really love that i got a TON of it! this stuff is great for me to practice my chinese letters as well as do paintings AND its transparent enough to put a coat of mod podge over and have it (almost) disappear!
you cannot ask for better than that!

The sales write up for this paper says "Thickening." This paper is not thick. It is thin, but does what raw paper is supposed to do if you do not know how to control your moisture. It bleeds. I wish that the sheets were wider. The paper is very tricky for painting orchid petals. The paper works best with hard hair brushes. You have to be very careful when painting rocks. For a Xuan paper that is thin, I enjoy working with it. I am still testing the paper and will stretch a painting soon.

I'm using this for block prints. It's very good. Thin and easy to get a good clean print. I've spray mounted the prints on heavier paper backing and they look great. So economical for practice prints, too.

This is not expert-quality paper. But, this is the nicest student-quality paper that you can buy for an excellent price. When you are in the process of learning a new Chinese-Brush painting technique or working on a new subject, you don't want to use up your expensive paper. Yet, most lower-priced papers don't give you the absorbency or liveliness that this paper gives. And, if your "practice" piece turns out to be a masterpiece, I believe this will mount just fine for framing! I am very impressed with this paper!! By the way, I use the "raw" xuan which has the most absorbency and is the liveliest for Asian-style brush painting. Ripe or semi-ripe mean that they are less absorbent. Less absorbent paper makes it easier for Chinese Calligraphy but inhibits the ability to get lovely greys and wet-on-wet effects in your paintings.
