L. L. Rahn: I’ve waited 20 years for this! I was using a 2x4 with a nail to hold the line up but with every wind…my clean wet laundry was on the ground. Finally, I thought about looking on Amazon. I can’t give it 5 stars because after Day 1, it does not hold the extension and slides into a shorter pole and my clean wet laundry is on the ground. However, with duct tape to keep it from shortening…it’s a winner! The tape makes it difficult to collapse for storage but that is a 1st world problem. Ordering a second one for a second line.

I have two stretches of clothesline in my back yard. They are strung between trees so have a rather lengthy span. These props are just what was needed to keep the line from sagging from the weight of the clothes.
I ordered two and one came with enclosed directions and the other did not. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no reference for how to use the springs, so I am holding onto them for now.
As one reviewer noted, some of the negative reviews are from people not understanding that theses are props for existing clothesline and not to be used for clothes poles. Someone also mentioned trying to use them on a deck somehow. They have a pointed end, that although it could be longer, is meant to poke into the ground.
One review header was “Chinese” Is that news today? What did they expect for this price? As with other Amazon reviews, one can see even hundreds of positive reviews then a handful of negative reviews which when one reads are a result of not reading directions and/or not using the product correctly. This is not a problem with the product, rather the product owner. Things like missing the top caps of the props are a legitimate...

It has one job, keep the line propped up. It cannot do that.
The twist handle which is supposed to allow you to extend the pole will not grip firm enough to support any kind of weight. No matter how light.
I have a pretty strong grip and twist it as tightly as possible. As soon as it's put in place, the pole retracts into itself.
I had written the review with the intent on returning the useless item. But, I had the idea of filling the pole with cat litter until it was the length I wanted, problem solved. It can't really be retracted, but that's fine. It now does the job. Since it seems to be the most common problem, I thought I'd share this simple solution.

Sturdy, lasts, easy to use. Have used for 5 years, just does the job. Saw other posts with less stars...maybe I just got a good one. Works for me though.
Bought a different one from Amazon at same time. It was made of thin, ridged aluminum. It worked well, but just stepped on it and flattened metal. Not as robust as this one. Did splint it with wood lathe and Gorilla tape. Back in action.
Both worked and happy to get 5 + years out of them.
