Rabid Rover: Didn't come well packed for a fragile item in spite of there being reviews of items being damaged in shipping. The steel strip as others have mentioned as well is extremely thin and not even completely flat. My fear is that it might start rusting.

Mine was showing off sometimes by 4 deg C and sometimes by 8 deg when measuring room temperature and I was planning to return it. However when I reached home the error went down to about a degree. My guess is that it is not accurate over the full scale but only within a narrow range. The thermometer is quite sensitive/reactive though.

The wide bend for attaching to the tank is good especially for tanks that have a plastic frame. However it is still small for hanging on the side.

The length is so short that I had to fill an extra 2 liters of water to get the water up over the safe zone marking as it was getting difficult to read with the water line coinciding with the reading. I would have preferred to keep the water level low as I have floating plants which otherwise are not visible.

If I were shown this physically I would not have bought this but have paid more for the plastic version which seems taller and...

S.: An old mercury 'type' thermometer in a metal casing like people have used in aquariums forever! Just be careful not to bump the glass thermometer bulb on the bottom, it breaks pretty easily. The edges of the metal can harm delicate fish so place it out of the way. This type of thermometer IS more accurate than most of the small digital types. A good deal.

Melanie: The thermometer looks great in the tank and is fairly easy to read. That said, if like me you have a lid with a wide edge, the "hook" on the thermometer will cause it to not close properly.

Unfortunately, I can't evaluate more criteria such as life span, reliability, etc. I unintentionally bumped the thermometer against the glass and it broke. Since the glass cracked and the mercury would have escaped, I consequently did not put the thermometer back in the water and threw it away.

Le thermomètre a fière allure dans l'aquarium et est passablement facile à lire. Cela dit, si comme moi vous avez un couvercle avec un large rebord, le "crochet" du thermomètre fera en sorte qu'il ne se ferme pas correctement.

Malheureusement, je ne peux pas évaluer plus de critères tels que la durée de vie, la fiabilité, etc. J'ai accidentellement heurté le thermomètre contre le verre et il s'est cassé. Puisque le verre s'est fissuré et que le mercure se serait échappé, je n'ai pas remis le thermomètre dans l'eau et l'ai jeté.

jmart303jmart303: When I received my thermometer I washed it off and put it in my tank. I noticed it wasn’t working and I took it out. I realised that the glass of the thermometer was cracked in half. The thermometer ended up contaminating the water. I ran and clean out the bowl as fast as I could to keep my Betta fish alive. I had to put them in cold water because I couldn’t let it sit out and warm up. Be really careful when buying this product.

Paul H: Good old standby. Reliable. I accidentally broke my last one after years of reliable service. So I bought another. Note: I do find the digital ones more convenient, but I still like having one of the plain old-fashioned analog ones as a standby.
