Amazon Customer: Perfect for our son to get some practice in with his siblings that don't necessarily pitch all that accurately. Pitches are pretty consistent as long as you are using the same balls, I noticed variation with changing baseballs throughout a session so I just picked up a bucket of balls that are all the same and back to being consistent. Still has a slight difference with each pitch which is good because it still forces the hitter to keep their eye on the ball.

David Christensen: Well I was looking for something that would throw accurate pitches faster than me to give my 8-year old something to swing at. This does just that.

I'm in a cranky mood getting it set up, but once I have it dialed in (4 to 5 'aiming' throws) it's good to go. PRO TIP: take dumbbells to the park with you and use them to weigh down the base so that it doesn't move at all. Yes, you really have to set this baby up 40 feet from home plate.

Benjamin Watanabe: This is a great tool for doing all sorts of drills, not merely batting practice. It's probably most useful for practicing short hops at first base and blocking pitches behind the plate, because it provides consistent -- but not too consistent -- "bad" throws for them to field.

I wouldn't quite call it "portable," however. Louisville Slugger emphasizes that by removing the front feet, the machine can "lay flat in a car trunk," which is technically true. They even have a video of a coach laying it in an empty car trunk. Most actual coaches, though, usually don't have empty trunks. My sedan has a large-for-its-class trunk, and after loading it with a ball bucket, my daughter's gear backpack, her catcher's gear bag, my own gear bag (w/tee, fungo, glove, scorebook, etc.), and hitting net, the machine barely fits with a lot of Tetris-like maneuvering.

If you have a truck or a big SUV -- as a lot of overcompensating sports dads do -- then you won't have any problem transporting it around. But you might have some challenges if you have a regular-person car.

Lanakii: I like it, but after 3 uses the little ball on the pin that goes into the foot pedal got smashed in and the pin fell out every few pitches.

If you go to the manufacture site the replacement pin is $4 (ok), and the shipping is $4 (what??). If you try to buy 3 replacements pins the charge you $4 shipping for EACH pin!!!!!!

Solution - went to the big orange store and bought a replacement pin for $3. It is called a "1/4 inch cotterless hitch pin".

Better solution - i bought a 1/4 inch bolt for 29 cents and a nut for 17 cents and I just run it through the black clasp and foot pedal hole and spin the nut on just enough to hold the nut from falling off. When not in use i take the bolt out of the spring and just leave it in the foot pedal. Much more solid and won't lose the pin.

Hope this helps someone because $8 for the pin is ridiculous when it broke after 3 uses.

Danielle Arnold: Awesome product. Exactly as advertised. Only thing I would change is longer pegs to secure to the ground. I purchased 5" bolts from my local hardware store and they work great. Love the fact that no electricity is required to run it.
