Jason Twain: Very nice, although my crazy house wiring confused me. Finally through trial and error I got it to work.

Pros -
1. Seems very solid. The old slider dials I had kept breaking.
2. My old slider control only had 3 fan speeds, but this 4 speed works without a problem. I actually like it better because both low and medium are completely quiet with this control on my fan. My old control was loud on all but the lowest setting.

Cons -
1. Dials are so smooth they are almost slippery. Probably for the best on second thought so you don't over tighten the off position.
2. Unlike my slider controls, this one doesn't turn the light on till nearly halfway through a turn. Then it is very bright immediately. You can turn it back down from there to dim, but it is a little inconvenient.

I'll take the solid design and live with the slight inconvenienced. If it lasts 20 years, I'll be happy.

Moose: I needed a dimmer that could control a fan's speed and dim the lights. There weren't all that many that fit the bill and I chose this one based on a combination of the reviews and the price.

Overall, I'm satisfied. I'd never installed a dimmer before and I was able to install this without issue after watching a how-to video. It comes with all the parts you need, including wire nuts (which I wasn't expecting and had already bought separately).

My only complaint is regarding the light knob. You have to turn it too far before the lights start coming on. I wish the light knob worked like the fan, which has five different positions, all of which do something. Instead, the light knob turns smoothly with no fixed positions (besides "off"). As it is, once I start turning the light knob on, I have to get roughly 1/3 of the way between "off" and the brightest setting before the lights come on at all. And this is with incandescent lights.

Also, I tried it with dimmable LED bulbs  Philips 435453 40 Watt Equivalent A15 Medium / Standard Base Dimmable LED Light Bulb, Soft White . With them, I had to turn the light knob to about the halfway point before they turned on,...

Michael D. Glass: Having been terribly disappointed in another Leviton switch--the style with two, small vertical sliders--this RTD01-10W is a welcome satisfaction. The tiny tabs on the previous switch popped off within days of installation and would not stay attached even with super glue, leaving two, small exposed prongs. Very disappointing.

I had this switch installed in my home office over a month ago. It gets used for one or another function--dimming or brightening the light mostly--several times a day. After that period of usage I feel I can, in good conscience, highly recommend it.

Likes: The switch knobs are sturdily attached and give the feeling of quality and durability. This is no wishy-washy switch. Turning the dimmer from off to fully on, the knob stops decisively with no give at the end. Turning it back to off, the knob clicks at off, and again stays there is no give.

The fan knob sets with decisive clicks and solid seating at each setting, and--yes, again--no give at either end of play. Further, the switch gives me more range of fan speed than I had on the fan before hand. Mine is an older Hunter ceiling fan with light, probably twenty or so years old, and has...

PhotoGraphics: Ah, if only everything in life were so simple. I have a ceiling fan in my gabled ceiling office and when it was installed they used a switch with 3 positions for the fan and a simple on/off for the light. Neither bothered me a lot but I definitely would have preferred to be able to dim the light and the fan speeds seemed to be "too fast", "much too fast" and "way too fast". I saw this switch and at a selling price of only about $16 thought I would give it a try.

I like the look, it is more pleasing than the old-school slider of my old switch. The light control is an ultra-simple rotary control ... click, turn to desired brightness, turn back to click off. Sure I would have preferred a push on/push off switch but it wasn't a deal-breaker because I rarely set the light to the same brightness twice.

The rotary fan speed switch is similar. From off you go through the fastest speed down to the slowest speed. That may seem a bit counter-intuitive at first but in use it makes sense. Trust me.
