Grumpy Matt: I bought the black band to replace an Intey black band that broke after years of use. I liked that one, but could no longer find it. This one is definitely thicker, heavier and requires more "pull". They are not equivalent, I should have gotten the next step down--my bad. The colors apparently don't necessarily correspond to tension across brands. Anyway, it is a very tough, durable feeling rubber. More so than the Intey. The downside is that the hard edges dig into my hands more than the my prior band and can be uncomfortable. Also, the rubber is slick, so it is more difficult to get a grip. I thought maybe there would be a break in period and this would improve, but it hasn't. Basically, it is a very durable material that should last a long time, but the compromise is that it is not as forgiving--I find myself using gloves to help avoid the discomfort. I guess it would work fine as an assist for pull-ups if used around the feet/legs. But for arm exercises where you grip with the hands this could be an issue for some.
