Enjoy the best of English, Scottish, and Welsh cuisine with How to Cook: The Victorian Way!Day Littrell: The National Trust has given us a great gift with their well-trained and well-educated docents throughout the NT properties, and none has captured my imagination more that Mrs Crocombe and her YouTube videos demonstrating not only Victorian recipes (for both the titled and their servants), but also sliding in historical background information and the reasons why things were done just so. I was thrilled to find that the NT was putting out a book - and what a book! The inclusion of some of the real Mrs Crocombe's personal writings is astonishing, and the recipes are as easy to follow as when they're playing out on YouTube. Such a delight!

Randall Reade: I have a lot of cookbooks, but I am always on the lookout for cookbooks that have old recipes that you don't find any more. This cookbook has plenty of authentic recipes that have been tested and tried and tasted from the late 19th century. I've made a few, and they have all turned out exactly as explained.
But this is more than just a cookbook. It's really a history of cooking in an English manor house of the period. It is based on a real recipe book by Mrs. Crocombe, and actual Victorian cook. So, even if you don't make the recipes, you really learn a lot about life downstairs.
