KFamily: The media could not be loaded. Happy with this purchase, has a lot of phrases, seem to be well done. Lots of different topics starting with the basics and advancing with every lesson.

RMC2011: Got this on my kindle. I barely know the Russian Alphabet, but have wanted to learn the language for a while. I just read each page of this book, over and over until I got it - then turned to the next page. It seems daunting, but just reading the page day after day (3-4times per read)…it just soaks in. MaryMary: This book is great except the printer must have run out of ink while printing my copy because there is a stark line of missing ink down the first 30 pages of the book, in the same spot.

Michael: Okay - I bought this several months ago and only now delving into it properly.
First off - it is an excellent, useful handy size.
Topics are organised into sections, so this is helpful too - medical, food ordering, money etc.
Normal things like car rental are covered and what would be usual to say or hear.
I like that part of it too.
The print size and lay out is more akin to the older styled blogs, so it is easy to read and follow with sufficient space between the text examples for finding the piece you want to try.
My bug bear is the use of Romanised/Latin characters seeking to approximate the sounds for would be readers. This is unhelpful.
There is no way that the English text (a Germanic language) adopting a Latin based alphabet, can somehow mimic the sounds or phonolgy of Russian using Cyrillic script.
Either the reader has some understanding of vowel sounds, silent consonants and reductions or they do not.
The busyness of the extra Romanised text creates a distraction to the eye for those trying to read the Russian.
We often fail to pronounce ы, ж, ю, з, щ, ч, у, correctly, because the sounds are not as the native...

Julz: Some mistakes, but for the most part it is very good for beginners.
One of the main things I saw was that it said Russians don't roll their 'r's. In the Russian language there will be cases were the 'r' is rolled. I wouldn't use this as the sole learning material for learning the language, but definitely something to add to the collection.

artsyteacher: Great product because it is easy to understand, has the pronunciations right there for you phonetically. I find it useful as a beginner learning the language and its thin enough to store in a tote/purse if you plan on bringing it with you when travelling.

J.Gustafsson: Phrases focus on the basics & everyday common things you might need in conversation/requests.
In my mind this is a great thing as you will start to think of other applications you can use in conversations.
Only confusing thing would be for absolute beginners who don't understand Russian conjugations & that is not the fault of this book. They are difficult to grasp without a decent explanation & practice.
Keep this book on your phone/tablet & refer to it often.
Only very minor downside for me would have been their explanation at the beginning of the book about how to phonetically say Russian sounds.
They write 'ja' for yah sound & 'je' for yeh sound. It's probably they correct way to do it phonetically but as its a book seemingly for English speakers I don't think it's the easiest way to explain it.
Still like the book very much.

Mr AJ Ridout: I was not expecting this phrase book to be so thorough. There are phrases for so many different topics and situations. Many of the phrases are useful but there are phrases in there that you will probably never use. However if you are studying Russian then the point of this is for you to be eble to figure out the way the phrase is constructed so that you can start creating your own and not just relying on set phrases.
Overall I think this is a great and very useful book and I would recommend any Russian learner buy it as well as the other books from Lingo Mastery.
