GinaGina: So I had to order this item and then return for a new one because the silicon part was defective. I didn’t actually return it until I received the second set and that set also had defective silicon molds. But between the 2 sets I was able to complete 1 total non-defective set. They work great! I fill up to the line, not past. Then slide the silicon top in snuggly. Then I actually push on the silicon dome to get a little bit of the water out so there is enough room for when the water expands during freezing it is just a sphere. If I don’t so this then as the water expands during freezing, the silicon top slides up and turns it into an oblong shape. It come out of the mold easily without running water on the mold. I twist and it pops out of the hard plastic bottom piece, then use my thumbs to depress the silicon dome and the ice sphere just pops right out! It’s a perfect size for lowball glasses!
If I ever need more I’d buy this again!

Heather: I discovered ice ball forms several years ago and loved them. When I went to buy some for a friend who raved about them, I found these ones. They’re even better than the ones I already had! They’re larger, and the filling process is nearly foolproof once you get a feel for how it responds to different handling.
When filled to the line, you can place the rubber top on and gently squeeze together to remove the air; when the excess water oozes out the hole, you can dump it off without losing any of the water inside. I even sometimes tilt the molds in the freezer, and they don’t spill.
Removing is just as simple, and doesn’t require much beyond a little wiggling twist back and forth to free the ice from the hard plastic bottom (and will usually retain the ball in the rubber top). Running the bottom under hot water can speed up the process if you have any trouble with it.
The one thing is that although the ball last well in your drink compared to regular ice cubes, these large ones don’t fit into all of the wide-mouth water bottles like the smaller molds I had. But it’s great for whiskey in a highball.

AD: Very easy to use, just fill water, leave some space for water to expand as it freezes and pop it in the freezer.
Once frozen, remove from the freezer and leave aside for a few minutes which makes it easy to extract the ice ball. Just pull gently on the silicon cap and there you have it. Gently and carefully place in your beverage glass, the ice ball is heavy and may crack your glass. Of course, drinking water well not give you clear ice balls.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and will recommend this to others as well.

davidthawaii: There is currently a very expensive LG refrigerator that can make impressive, spherical “craft ice” automatically for you. But, you can make your own craft ice with these economical freezer forms (albeit, more slowly!) for thousands of dollars less. And, because you get 4 forms — instead of just 2 containers, with other brands — this is a great deal!
They must remain upright while freezing, so they don’t spill; but they also stack, so it’s easy to put more of them in the freezer at one time, to prepare for parties, etc. I’m going to order another set, because I am actually using them to make ice cream balls, with homemade ice cream poured into the forms and frozen solid. Pop them out, store them in a plastic container in the freezer (or wrap each ball individually in foil or plastic wrap).
Slip an ice cream ball with some soda into a tall glass, and make an ice cream float in seconds! No strenuous scooping is necessary. Or, better yet, quickly make an Affogato by mixing some espresso powder with an ounce or two of hot water, and pour it over the ice cream, placed in a short glass or small bowl. Un dessert elegante!
