Kwikset 92640 001 Electronic Keypad Deadbolt - Sleek, Contemporary Design

K. Plaskocinski: Awhile back my wife accidentally got locked out of the house. Not her fault, I since replaced that door lock to the garage. The trouble she had to go through to contact me to get back in made me decide an electronic key pad on the front door would have solved this. Good decision as later on we were both gone for an emergency and the dog was home alone. We were able to call a neighbor and gave him the code so he could let the dog out and feed her. The keypad was easy to install, if you follow all the steps. I missed one about the setup and ended calling customer support. The rep had me go through the setup steps which resolved the problem quickly. When I asked why that step wasn't in the manual she politely refereed me to page #. Opps, my bad. We've had this for months and have had no problems plus we both don't have to worry about being locked out.

Jordan: I have worked with a lot of locks over the years between lots of different house and re keying customers and fixing them for different companies. These locks were easy to install easy to program and have held up well. They were great for when I went on vacation and needed someone to feed my dog and I could give them their own code and delete it after the fact while keeping my own personal code would definitely recommend buying one.

Kerry H: There were a few reviews that had me worried, but overall the positive ratings outweighed the negative.

Super easy to install, the video was easy to follow and included lots of helpful tips to modify for different door setups.

Once installed, took me a minute to figure out the default programing code (0000) - but once I got that, programming was a breeze.

No issues so far, will see how it holds up over time.

RenaissanceMan: Had an existing deadbolt and replaced it with the kwikset lock. Took the tumbler to Ace and had the tumbler keyed to my house keys in about 5min. Installation was super easy and it’s simple to clear codes and add your own.

The only issue I have with it right now is I couldn’t get the auto-lock enabled. No worries right now as it wouldn’t be able to do it because I need to file down/adjust the catch. This is an exterior door so the foam insulation wants to push the door so the bolt rubs against the catch.

The open/close mechanism isn’t strong enough to open single handed as the bolt rubs on the catch. But I also want a tight seal on the exterior door. Seems I can’t have my cake and eat it too. Hence my 4 star rating.

Nevertheless still works as intended and perfect for my needs.

M D H: Great value if you just want a basic unit with no fancy bluetooth features. Very happy with the quality and ease of use

We did have to use a locksmith to install because our existing cut outs did not line up perfectly. This would be a problem with any similar unit and has no reflection on this lock. Just be aware that your door / deadbolt must line up well with the deadbolt hole in the frame. If you have to push or pull on the door to use the existing deadbolt this probably will not work without some adjustments to the holes / alignment for the deadbolt

Kevin Kwan: I was using a Kwikset 909 for several years, the motor seems to have some trouble, the latch extents normally but retracts like the motor was not strong enough (new battery also the same). Some time it stopped retracting half way. I was looking for a replacement as Kwikset 909 already stop production.

In my situation, I needed a lock with height of the front panel cannot be more than 120mm, and this 264 is just right. I am happy with this model. I took about 1 hour to install, most of the time was spent on installing the latch as the hole needed some modification, after than it was a breeze. Setting of user codes was simple with clear instructions.

My only wish is to has external battery supply connection in case of battery running low. Twice I was locked out with Kwikset 909 due to battery problem. Now I always carry the key in case of such situation.
