NHZNHZ: Forget the neat car and creature waffles and make real waffles. With a light brush of corn or vegetable oil this is non-stick and rarely needs to have the plates out in the dishwasher. Yes, the plates detach. 4 waffles at a time and you get a green light when they're done. Cook on 3 for soft and 4 for solid. Family likes them different ways? Cook on 3 and for crunchy ones toast them for a minute. Mine is definitely a member of the kitchen.

Pro Tips:
#1: If you want crispy, dark waffles like in the photo ignore the timer and beeping. I cooked all my waffles on number 5 and let them cook undisturbed for 6-7 minutes and they came out perfect. I even left one waffle on for over 10 minutes, they will not burn. They gradually get darker and more flavorful so let them be. 6-7 minutes is perfect for real waffles.

#2: Don't try to fill in all the squares, just pour batter straight in the middle and make sort of round, big waffles (see my attached pictures). As the batter cooks, it will expand and shoot out the sides making a huge mess if you're trying to fill in all the squares eventually - especially if you're using some kind of leavening agent. I made a couple with baking powder and a couple with fermented sourdough, both expanded in the iron.

Last Tip, #3: the griddles are supposedly non-stick, but you still need some oil. I highly recommend using Ghee (clarified butter). You get the butter flavor without the burning taste since ghee has a high smoke point.

L. Warner: I chose this to make chaffles and waffles. I wanted the square size as preferred over round. I liked that the waffle plates come out for dishwashing. Really dislike cleaning the little squares or having it dirty. This maker works very well and signals with a light when it’s heated and finished cooking. Makes great crunchy waffles, not thick Belgian. Had to learn to remove and attach the plates but now it’s easy. Cleans up very easy and because it’s square and latches it sits on its side in the cabinet, taking up less space. Highly recommend.

William Sherman: It’s a waffle maker. It does as advertised well enough. Better than many other cheaper brands, imo.

Pros:

It has a pre heat buzzer

It buzzes when your waffles are done

It pre heats pretty fast compared to cheaper brands

The waffle iron pieces come off so you can wash them in the sink or dishwasher. Not many other brands do this

Cons:

The rubber feet already came off, which means it’ll slide around on the counter some

The handle is too hot to touch, you’ll need an oven mitt or towel

Overall:

I like it, I’m not picky. It does as advertised well enough and my cons aren’t enough to dissuade me from recommending it.

Neel: We make pancakes in this almost every morning. We just set it to one temp after some trial and error and never touched the dial after that. We just oil it up with some olive oil so the mix doesn't stick when it's done and then plug it in and let it warm up, pour in our mix, close it and let it finish.

We've only ever make one batch so we have no idea how it will behave with a second batch since it would already be fully warmed up from the first batch instead of starting from being cool.

The olive oil is important! We find other oils don't work as well, I think we tried avocado oil and it caused the mix to stick to the plates and break apart when trying to pull it out.

We also mastered the art of how much pancake mix to water ratio using a measuring cup so we never make more mix than we need or less! Our ratio is 1 cup powder and 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup milk. Works great!

J.: So reviews seem to be mixed on this. As much pro reviews as user reviews. I was shopping for something bit more pricey initially (the Breville ones at 300$). I finally decided to go with this given I'm not the type to make waffles every day. First off, let's be honest, this is a reasonably priced unit and hence, yes, heating and cooking times might be a bit longer. But it makes 4 decent size waffles. So here we go:

- if you use a homemade batter recipe, 2-3 waffles will be plentiful per person. If you're making for a big group, simple, keep them warm in a 200 degree oven or make a few days ahead, freeze and pop in the toaster or oven at 350. (Try the recipes from New York Times or Serious Eats among others)

- if saving, put them on a cooling rack between batches

- yes, I do use a light flavoured - eg. Canola - spray oil despite being nonstick, this will guarantee the longevity of the nonstick. This being said, make sure your spray contains no propellants or soy lecithin, this is what degrades the nonstick over time. No, it does not make my waffles gummy, chewy or cakey, it's all in the cooking time...

Ferraro: The waffles are good, have cooked both instant waffles with powder/water and a few of the recipe recommendations in their manual and both have tasted good with a satisfactory quality. Max settings produces crispy/toasty waffles and lower settings produce softer/fluffier waffles.

Clean up has been extremely easy. A simple wipe of the exterior and removable dish-washer safe waffle plates makes it very easy to maintain compared to a non-removable plate waffle maker.

My number 1 issue I've had has been the quality of the machine feeling overall cheap.

Examples:

1) The green "ready" light doesn't work at all and the orange "cooking" light always remains on making them effectively useless since the chime noise the machine makes when the waffles are done is really how you're knowing when they're cooked.

2) The overall quality of the screws/fasteners holding the metal cooking iron to the machine feel cheap. It's a thin, cheap aluminum that has browning/staining after the very first use and it doesn't feel like they will have much longevity with repeated use. A bit of speculation here as so far there haven't been any problems so far but previous/other...
