Placeholder: Having used many coffee grinders over many years both in the restaurant industry and at home. I have found this grinder more quiet than most. It is a no frills manual grinder that is made to grind consistent size grounds with very little if any powder. One of the quietest burr grinders I have used. Having 16 grind settings, I find it to be plenty adjustable, easy to use and clean, and built like a tank. If it does break, parts are extremely easy to find on the web and not expensive like parts for the Italian Espresso grinders. I would highly recommend it unless you want digital frills instead of cool, cosistent, quiet grinding. It has large diameter burrs that spin at about half the speed, 450 rpm, of most grinders on the market so it won't over heat your coffee and ruin it. I cannot get mine to jam and it will grind 1/2 pound of coffee beans without becoming much warmer than skin temperature, the grounds also come out cool. Mine will grind beans to a fine powder, way too fine for an espresso machine (like Turkish coffee) or grind beans quite coarse (easily coarse enough for a percolator) with very consistent grind size.
I don't know if something has changed since some of these...

Taylor306: I bought this at the beginning on July. This by far is the best grinder I've had. While the sound is loud it's a small price to pay for the outcome. I've also seen that people say that it leaks a bit of ground coffee and that the bottom Glass Tumbler is delicate. Honestly the amount it leaks coffee is minimal and the glass is thin but if you handle it properly it's fine. The weight is perfect because when you flip it on the grinder doesn't move around and the grind dial of perfect. I grind every morning because I like fresh I found this to be an awesome grinder that will last me a lot longer than 4 months. I would recommend this to anyone who is tired of buying grinder that burn out quickly.

Mike RodaMike Roda: I love it when I purchase something & it works flawlessly. This is one of those purchases. It is so easy to maintain this grinder, something that I really like. When disassembling it you can really see the quality of parts, metal and the simplicity of design. This reminds me of something the Grandparents would have had on their counter. It's very nice to own something that doesn't look like it was predesigned to fail after a short life. There are also excellent Kitchenaid videos on Utube that describe adjustments & disassembly for cleaning.
We have had quite a few grinders in the past both blade & burr but less expensive. Around a year ago we decided to purchase a better grinder. I started doing my homework pouring over reviews & comparisons. Along with the many best of coffee grinder review pages. I finally narrowed it down to the Barzata Virtuoso, a Rancillo Rocky SS & the Kitchenaid. I really wanted & liked the Kitcheaid but based on reviews chose the Virtuoso. I wish that I hadn't second guessed myself, I could have saved $250.00.
It was an okay grinder but very noisy & the grind was never perfect. We have been using a perculator coffeee maker...

Marius Z: This is an initial impressions review, after using the grinder for 2 days. As usual, I will revisit this in a few months and update if anything changes.
The burr mill, unfortunately, came encased in hefty pieces of styrofoam, which is very wasteful and not very environmentally friendly; there are so many packing options possible these days, so that was disappointing to see. However, here end all my disappointments with the mill.
Product information spec sheet lists this weighing in at 4.5 kg, and I believe it. The machine sits on the counter, and isn't going anywhere. The power cord is very thick, and only about 3 feet long, so position everything near an outlet, which is probably not an issue in modern kitchens. Assembled, it stands 13.5 inches, fitting easily under most hung cabinets. The entire body is metal construction, including the power switch, except for the coarseness adjustment dial, which is made of slightly rubberized plastic. Even the dial number ring is metal. The top hopper is glass, and screws into the top of the mill. It's covered up with a substantial and thick gasketed plastic lid. The grind collector is also made of glass, so be careful handling...

cprmj: Excellent burr coffee grinder! It was a little expensive but well worth it I think. It gives consistent and even results and is surprisingly quiet. The best part, however, is that it is static and mess free. I have been looking for a grinder that does not leave you with grinds all over the counter and stuck all over the dispenser bowl. It seems that almost all grinders have this problem, even some that say they don’t, but I can tell you that I have used the KitchenAid burr grinder many times and have never had to clean up any coffee grinds off of the machine, the dispenser jar or the counter. If you want excellent fresh ground coffee with no mess to clean up, you can’t go wrong with this product. Also I think it it will last for many years with regular use as it feels and sounds to be of excellent quality—far superior to all those awful plastic machines out there.

Tom Cain: Tired of a cheap grinder that merely chops the coffee beans, I bought this one and did a comparison between the two types of grinders, using the same coffee beans. This grinder actually grinds the beans as fine as you want it (even for espresso coffee) and releases more flavour of the bean. The difference in taste is very noticeable. I like my coffee strong and dark and this grinder is perfect.
I know that $300 is a lot to spend for a coffee grinder, but Kitchen Aid is built sturdy with very low maintenance. We have a Keurig coffee maker and the pods (if you buy in bulk) costs 63 cents each. Now my coffee costs between 5 and 10 cents each. I calculated that after 500 cups of coffee; this grinder has paid for itself. In my case...7 months. If you enjoy good coffee, like I do; I would consider this to be a very worthwhile investment that will last years and years and save you lots of money.

Kevin M.: We had to pay a premium for this grinder because it seems it’s discontinued. The style and motor are very much like the mixers everyone loves so much. It’s a straight forward design that’s easily cleaned. Noise level is low for the monster motor they attached to this. It’s a very low speed grinder so that might be why. The grind quality seems consistent but I’m not scrutinizing it that much. It’s early in the purchase time but so far this was worth the money over some of the newer plastic options. This unit has almost no plastic except for the knob and a little on the base. It’s all metal and glass.
