Kidde Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Detector - KN-COSM-IBA for Home Safety

Lynne D: Our smoke detectors suddenly started beeping so my husband contacted the company. They said it’s because they have to be replaced. We did not have them for the full number of years listed. Apparently the “life expectancy” starts when they are manufactured, it when they are installed. We bought these to replace them because that’s what was recommended. I chose this seller because they are cheapest. They came before expected and were easy to install. Thankfully we haven’t had a need for them so I can’t report on whether or not they work in a fire or if there is a carbon monoxide issue.

pat bosi: I had Kidde smoke & carbon monoxide detectors hard wired into my home in 2012& they lasted 8 years before they needed to be replaced., Except for a battery.
This specific model now is guaranteed to last for 10 years & you don't have to replace the battery, so it's a nice up grade.

The really nice thing is the original hard wiring works with the replacement Kidde told me to buy.

Their customer support is pretty good
& I suggest you do call and talk to them as you replace any smoke detector.

I have arthritis in my hands so the connection was a little tough for me to push together, but for the average person I'm sure it will be easy replacement.

I have not had any problems with the Kidde brands.

mkb: These are the second set of alarms I've installed. First ones (same brand) lasted 8 years and then let me know that they were getting tired. Replacement of all 4 of them took only minutes - most of which was getting the ladder into the house and moving it around. Test is noisy as all 4 of the linked alarms work at once. I hope I never have to use them in anything but test mode, but they seem ready to do the job if needed.

Michael D. Niemeyer: Sounds scary? It's not.
First, this is about replacing an old alarm with a new one. The house is wired for them, so I'm going to get alarms that will be easy.
I want them from the same company as the old ones (they work great, they tell me about baking experiments gone wrong, that's what they're supposed to do). I want them from the same company because I know the wiring harness and bracket haven't changed. [Thanks Kidde! :) ]
Next step, disconnect the old alarm. Twist to get it off, unplug the alarm. [Cool.]
Next, connect the new alarm. Plug in the harness, twist it back up. [Why is this bad again?]
Finally, test. Get off the ladder and press from as far away as you can still reach. [What?]
Plug ears. [NOW HE TELLS ME. WHAT? WHAT? I'M NOT yelling. oh. oh. that was loud. Yep, that'll work.]
Go back to watching Prime in a safer house. [Job well done. :) ]

Brian F.: Just replaced three of our old Firex G-6 smoke alarms (dated 9/20/2002) with these Kidde Smoke and CO alarms, (dated Nov 2016). We needed to use the included 'quick connect wire harness' to hard-wire in the alarm, since our old connector was slightly different. That amounted to removing the wire nuts for two wires and swapping out the old wires with the new ones. ( A five minute job, tops) We also needed to swap out the old mounting plate with the new one. Both plates mounted to the electrical box, so that only involved two screws. The old plate was an ivory color, whereas the new one is a bright white, which matches the alarm. Each installation took about 10 minutes, at the most, including moving the ladder around, and calming down the dog, who got all worked up when we pushed the 'test' button. :-)
